Are there any motherboards that support NVMe? Will there be backward compatability?

If I understand this correctly, NVMe drives can have PCIe, SATA or M.2 interfaces. Without BIOS support, these drives will not be bootable. Without BIOS support, NVMe drives will work as additional storage only. Does this sound right? Will there be BIOS updates for existing motherboards or...

Wow on memory prices spiking again

I've read that the low prices were due to oversupply at the time. Today, there are fewer DRAM makers and a lot of the capacity has switched over to NAND manufacturing. So now we have expensive RAM but cheap SSDs

I upgraded to 24 gb of ram... What cool things can I do with it?

http://memory.dataram.com/products-and-services/software/ramdisk I once used a server with 32GB RAM to do some testing. Installed the whole OS on the ramdisk which made snapshot jumping a lot quicker.

When Anand did his first review for the Vertex 3, he gave it nothing but praise while everyone was complaining about their nerfed V2s. After much pressure, Anand eventually covered the story (see link in my previous post), but he burried it inside another review article about the V3.

Actually this is a good point about PoE's low current. I will be getting some high power motion sensing floodlights but I'll use LED ones as well that run thoughout the night.

15W of LED power is quite a lot. I am planning on getting 12-14W LED floodlights instead of the traditional 500W ones. I didn't say I can't run power cables. I just think that PoE floodlights could be very useful.

This is actually what I was looking for initially (actually the GS724TP rather than the GS724TPS). Not sure if these are any good though? I'll look into the e3000 but I would prefer a PoE AP. Do you have any experience with Dell switches? Any particular model you like?

AFAIK, Aruba APs require a controller which is an overkill for a home environment. I have a cheap wireless router that I'll use for now. The wireless will be used for HD streaming occasionally but not much for the rest of the time. Any recommendation for a router and switch?

I'd just like to reiterate what everyone else is saying and advise against the 40GB Intel drive as it is too small for a modern OS, app pool and page file (before you ask, you need it and it should stay on the SSD). If the drive will be lightly used (net, office, etc...) than you won't notice...

Suggestion on a good SSD.

The general consensus is that in general usage, the difference between SSDs is negligible. Sandforce drives usually have higher IOPS figures and Marvell drives have high sequential read speeds... I would just get the best deal around for a C300, M4 (C300's successor) or any Sandforce 12xx drive...
