3500 winchester vs 3500 newcastle

winchester is not really better, maybe 3% more performance, but the important point about winchester is less power consumption and less heat production. and the winchester seem to be better for overclocking. 80$ is still alot of cash...maybe wait some weeks and watch for lower prices.

Windows re-install required with a new motherboard?

i guess he gonna have to install xp again, but of course he can try first without. but better he saves his datas before. usually a new mobo with a new chipset will always require new windows installation for best performance. and think of the sound and lan drivers...

20-pin to 24-pin PSU adapter

the missing 4 pins are redundant, if the board and the psu are build in ATX standards it has to be compatible anyways, and since ur not having instabilities it shows there is really no reason to get an adapter.

its an imperfect world...where companies like MSI produces boards that wont run propperly with standard PSU`s and buyers dont like to read boring manuals unless they facing troubles caused by the producers.

Quickie: Dual channel RAM requires 2 sticks, but can it run with 3 sticks??

yep, he got no idea what hes talking about and the first posting neither....nforce2 wont have improved performance with dc, todays systems indeed profit from dc like socket 939. At least when running sandra :rolleyes: but in some games and appz too. but regarding nforce2 that was a big hoax...

Thermalright XP120 Question?

agree, i read some reviews and tested myself cuz i got the xp-120 and blowing away was 3-5°C less hot then blowing on the hsf.

FFS, not blow on the hs, let it suck from the hsf and blow into the case so the other fans can move the warme air outside case, and unless JulesMaximus can show us a review i dont believe him, that temperatures decrease when u let blow fan on the hsf. Has to blow away from hsf.

amd 64 versus 32 bit boards

the ONLY advantage of nforce4 is the pcie feature. more or less the only advantage of socket 939 is dualchannel and winchester compatibility- wouldnt suggest the Raptor for the normal user. I know its the fastest hdd but its also twice expensive then a normal drive and having half size, means...

i know that sony is a MNC and like all they try to keep control over concurence and over the customer at the same time, will b hard way to find out that this strategy cant work. Why do u need windows? All u need it a GUI. And there will b other OS that u can swap to like when u stopped using...

hmm, no problem with that 266er Ram, but when u buy new memory u should buy single sided Ram. If u u use more than 2 modules of double sided Ram, speed will reduce. Either it will be like 400MHz@Commandrate T2, or 333Mhz@Commandrate T1. Just want u to know that. So buy either only 2 modules of...

hmmm, ok, agree with what u said concerning the patches but I dont agree concerning 3. "disabling windows services". This script is very easy to understand and very helpful. I never set up a new Windows without closing these well known security holes. U wont find any patches that help u do so...

in ur case id say that the xp-120 was an overperformer and its huge. as for the fans to use, i suggest to buy a medium powered fan with about 50-70m³ of air moving. these should cause noise like 20-26db, which is hearable but not noisy. everything under 20db will be super silent. I refer to...

What are my RAM upgrade options with this CPU+Motherboard ?

when booting up there should be short notice that tells u the amount of Ram and "Dual Channel enabled". As u installed the Ram in the correct slots for working in Dual Chanel it should work already, but i had some problems with two stupid Hewlett Packard Rams on an ABit NF7-S and it wouldnt work...

I use the blue Zalman passive one two, thatswhy i refereed to it. Iam running a 2500+ Barton @3200+ and the heatsink doesnt get much more than handwarm, maybe a lil warmer but not as hot that u say: ouch. saves lil cash and some noise.

CPU Week Codes?

overclocking always!!! depends on the single CPU u get, some go better some go worse to overclock. though later CPU`s and certain steppings tend to offer more potetntial but still its the single CPU that make the result and not the date of production.
