Go SLI if you want to have the option the future and think you may use it. Which problems you may or may not encounter mostly are dependent upon your hardware configuration.

If your system is stable with your current BIOS and works fine, then there really is no reason to update the BIOS since you don't overclock. There is really nothing for you to gain.

WHAT IS THIS COMPONENT ON MY MOBO???

That component looks like a polyswitch. It's basically a solid state, resettable fuse that's meant to protect other components and cicuits from damage. If too much voltage and/or current is applied, the component increases it's internal resistance to cut off power from the rest of the board...

Bad video card? Or bad MB? on A8N-SLI

Try the middle slot, #2. That's where mine is and it's not sharing IRQ's. Also try disabling PEG Link Mode in the system BIOS.

Probably the Nvidia IDE drivers. Uninstall them, reverting back to the default Windows IDE drivers and don't be surprised if your problem goes away.

That's a tough one to call. The four module issue is a limitation of the memory controller built onto the Athlon 64 itself, it's not just with this board, the same would apply to any Athlon 64 platform. This is supposed to be fixed with the next revision of the A64 CPU's. As to the Geil RAM...

Snatz, this happens most of the time when you use driver cleaner to remove the chipset drivers. The system can't boot if they are completely deleted. You may be able to to repair your xp install but will most likely have to do a clean install.

Will NEVER buy another ASUS PRODUCT!!!

Was the "clear CMOS" jumper shorted? That has been known to cause boards to catch fire if they are switched on when it is shorted. That is why they always tell you to pull the power plug before clearing CMOS to ensure there is no way the system can be switched on during the process.

Upgrading the parents

For this type of system, it's hard to beat the Abit KV7 combined with a Sempron 2500+ or so, and 512MB Corsair VS. I've built several systems for people using this combo and was surprised at how "snappy" they ran.

For that price, you should be able to find a 6800GT. If you are not into heavy gaming, you will probably be happy with a 6600GT which will be a lot cheaper solution.

Uhh, I take it you have only built systems previously (if at all) with onboard video. These are generally low-end cheap solutions. The board you have is not one of these. It requires a video card of the PCI Express variety in order to output a video signal.

This has already been said multiple times in this thread but I'll add my 2 cents just because I feel this can't be emphasized enough. AVOID THESE CHEAP POWER SUPPLIES LIKE THE PLAGUE! Don't build such a nice system and then compromise it's stability and possibly even the life of the components...

71.84 WHQL does not fix SLI Widescreen DVI issue

I read a post in another forum suggesting that this problem can be fixed by changing the timing values under the Advanced Timing settings of the Screen Resolutions & Refresh Rates driver tab. Have you already tried playing around with any of these settings?

Bootup problem in A8N-SLI

First of all, make sure you inserted the memory into the proper slot, B1, as stated in the manual. Also, make sure the RAM you are trying to use is on the approved list from Asus.
