thanks, Navid Very informative reading. I have CS2, so I don't know if I can access this ram. Seems windows Vista 64 is the best for accessing all the ram.

Salvage Data Recovery Labs-anyone know this?

Thanks, all, Well as I said, I used File Scavenger, which quidkly got back my whole drive and only cost $49. I highly recommend it. I was able to reformat the drive after saving all the data and it seems to be working fine. What could have caused the failure?

Yeah, that's the one...but I looked in my other pc and had a program called file scavenger that did the trick for nothing. Looks like my disc was corrupted or something...it is retrieving as we speak. That company though has very nasty terms.

More info...I ran the western digital diagnostics on it and it check out OK...but I still can't read it ...they say it is a dynamic disc.

OK...I have more info. First of all the HD IS spinning, but the light on the external enclosure does not stay on like it does for fully functioning drives. There is no clicking sound, so thats a good sign. The drive is recognized in Disk Manager, but it will not open it. The harddrive is a WD...

Need simple video card

Saving info before reformat

Hey...I'm going to build a new system, since my old one is kaput...how do I save files like my email archives, downloaded programs, etc. I will, of course, burn them to disc before I reformat. All my data files are on separate harddrives.

Update: The computer crashed while running a file operation...I tried restarting and got the blue screen again with more info. I addition to the drivers phrase and all the zeros, this is the last line: sbp2port.sys-Address BA91d227 base at BA91800 Date stamp 410765A

We reinstalled the MB and video card drivers....the machine will run at a multiplier of 8 and lower voltage...but crashes again when we try to clock it at stock speed. It runs ok at the lower speed...I guess I'll just have to live with it until I build a new machine.

Well, I have a Matrox G550 AGP video card...I never updated the drivers. I did try system restore and that didn't solve the problem...maybe I should go back further. Should I reinstall the stock driver?

I bought my daugther an entry level Toshiba laptop for school last year. Last night, she called me crying...she had spilled an entire cup of tea on the laptop. I told her to turn it off and remove the battery...then dry it and turn it upside down on a towel overnight to see if she could dry it...

Setting up network

OK, I did enable simple file sharing from my only drive in computer 1 and it works. However, transferring files from com. 2 to com. 1 is awfully slow. Why is this? I am able to transfer from my computer to my external drive really fast.

A8V quirks

I successfully built my system using Asus A8v deluxe, AMD 3500+, WD 36G raptor drive, 160GB seagate IDE. 2BG patriot ram, etc. Seems to run well, but there are quirks. Most annoying are the USB periferals...if I have a card in the CF reader, or if I have an external drive turned on, the system...

Actually , the intel chips do some operations better because of hyperthreading. They definitely handle photoshop faster.
