Can the shape of a glass really effect a beer's flavor?

Whether or not the glass directs beer to the tip of your tongue or not is entirely irrelevant as the idea of different areas of the tongue detecting different tastes is absolute nonsense. Every part of your tongue can taste every kind of taste.

What to do with an old, redundant, unsellable white MacBook?

Server sounds like a decent idea, and I like the idea of being able to access it via remote desktop. Thanks for the suggestions!

What to do with an old, redundant, unsellable white MacBook?

Yeah that would be the plan.

What to do with an old, redundant, unsellable white MacBook?

I have a knackered old MacBook which has serious issues but somehow still works - see this thread for details! I'm trying to decide what to do with it, other than throw it in the bin and run away before it explodes. I saw one guy online who turned his MacBook into a wall mounted display in...

    Just heard some horrendous news

Thanks for all the messages of support, I know it'd cheer my mum up to show her this thread if it wasn't for all the idiotic comments throughout. Anyone who thinks that you have to invest money to look after a horse is a good enough excuse to find it amusing that two intelligent, emotionally...

    Just heard some horrendous news

EDIT: But I wasn't looking for sympathy, it's not my loss, it's my parents'. Just felt the need to share it. Not sure why.

    Just heard some horrendous news

Absolutely no idea. It's been my mum's dream since she was a kid, I think they've only recently been able to consider it in the last few years.

    Just heard some horrendous news

I can't believe I'm actually turning to ATOT to share my horrible news but it's late in the UK and I don't want to bother friends and have been told there is no point in phoning home as my mum is beside herself. But I need to share and reflect on it. After enjoying a few days off work at my...

Climbing six mountains in six regions of the British Isles in 72 hours!

My diet isn't unhealthy, but isn't particularly optimised for any general purpose. Generally lunch is a healthy sandwich, salad or jacket potato and dinner will be something cooked at home, usually chicken or fish with vegetables/salad and potatoes/rice/noodles etc. Occasionally make stir...

MSI Wind is basically 100% compatible for Hackintoshes now

Alright guys! I've been running OSX on my MSI Wind for some time though, but as I've (finally) gotten my 24" iMac I'm moving all my files over and think I may as well give the Wind a refresh! I haven't been keeping track of developments in the Wind Hackintosh community... could someone...

    New Mac Stuff! Whoohoo!

Well I've ordered a 2.66GHz 24" iMac, the only upgrade to the default spec being AppleCare. It's a shame about the 9400M graphics, especially with OpenCL on the horizon as Jack Flash pointed out, but at the end of the day I'm not going to spend an extra £180 (it'd be an extra £300 without my...

    New Mac Stuff! Whoohoo!

Makes sense. I think it's possible that I'd get into video production at a later date, but I understand that is CPU dependent rather than doing anything with the GPU. Games, rarely. 3D work, most likely never!

    New Mac Stuff! Whoohoo!

So for someone who plays very few games would you say that the GPU 'downgrade' is a non-issue?

    New Mac Stuff! Whoohoo!

I'm over the moon that the iMacs have been updated. But I'm still trying to digest the updates. Does anyone think that the price gap between the 24" base- and mid- models is a bit extreme? All you're getting is a dedicated GPU and a few more MHz and I'm also concerned that the 24"...

    My Poorly MacBook

Thanks for all the messages and offers of support guys, it's truly keeping me strong during this testing time. Don Vito - that's an incredible offer! Are you sure? It happens that I'm in the UK but having have had a look on eBay, etc the shipping may still make it a very economical deal...

I think a 'rikadik-proof' MacBook is perhaps more appropriate. Although I highly doubt such advanced technology already exists.

    My Poorly MacBook

Whilst I don't doubt the soundness of your advice, my MacBook doesn't work unless it's got the battery in! And I don't want to buy a new one for such a pile of junk. But I want to keep it alive!

    My Poorly MacBook

After the state of my MacBook cropped up in another thread, I decided to share some pictures of my poorly MacBook. To say I've looked after the poor thing is, well, a blatant lie. Well, I am careful with expensive things like laptops, but as it became more and more damaged I was more and...

Anandtech Decides if I buy an iMac

There is a big crack in the side, the screen has big patches of black and blue on it, have to use a USB mouse because the trackpad and button is a bit mental, it only runs off AC power (if you unplug it it shuts down instantly - not good when its MagSafe!) and most worryingly, the battery back...

Anandtech Decides if I buy an iMac

Do I buy an iMac? (Total Votes: 69) YES! Don't worry about updates, you'll have a great machine now rather than a marginally better one in 6 months time! 22 votes 31.88 (%) NO! Wait until the updates come. They're inevitable and could include Core i7, LED, DDR3, nVidia Graphics. 23...

Anandtech Decides if I buy an iMac

I've compared all the current refurb deals to new Mac with the Higher Education discount and the discount is either cheaper or the difference is negligible on all of them, so buying new with HE discount is definitely the way forward. There's only two refurbs at the moment that work out cheaper...

Anandtech Decides if I buy an iMac

Haha the plot thickens! I think the education discount will be better than the refurb discount (just from experience), but the education purchase comes with a 3 year standard warranty (vs 1 year on consumer purchases) so I'm pretty sold on that. And ok, I don't NEED it now, but i REALLY...

Anandtech Decides if I buy an iMac

I have considered Hackintosh for a long time (and am posting from my MSI Wind running OSX :D) but decided I want the reliability, support and simplicity of a real Mac. Pricewise, my little brother is at university whcih means I can bag his 15% education discount. I can also buy Logic Studio 8...

Anandtech Decides if I buy an iMac

Here's the deal... I'm about to pull the trigger on a 24" 2.8GHz iMac, but I've been holding off for updates for over a month now, and they haven't materialised. I am now getting bored of waiting but am going to give it until next weekend. I've thought... even if they update it with LED...

Streaming flac files in iTunes (via fluke) to an Xbox 360. On a Mac.

My little brother streams movies from his MacBook to his 360 using connect360 with great results. I was extremely impressed, was just like watching a DVD on his HDTV. Really reliable, smooth video and no hiccups. Unfortunately I can't really offer much advice other than that connect360...

Please to say I'm posting from my MSI running Leopard flawlessly. Installed from external HDD in the end. I found that installing Chameleon didn't work, installing Chameleon with OSX86 Tools didn't work... but I used OSX86Tools followed by Chameleon made it work! I now have a reliable...

This is great news. I originally bought the Wind in anticipation of greater compatibility with OSX. I personally couldn't see the point in installing OSX with onboard audio and wireless weren't going to work. It looks like these are now solved so I'm going to give it a go sometime in the...
