    Actually it's a typical overheating error most of the time. I ran Prime95 24/7 for about 4 years as a DC project. ;)

    Wired pegged it. It sounds like a HDD issue. If after defraging, you are still not happy, buy a new HDD. I would reccomend the Raptor 150. It's extremely fast. :)

    I agree. Thermal stress (going from ambient temps, to operating temps) is harder on your electronic equipment than just leaving it on. But mechanical things, such as HDD, PSU, and fans will have a shorter lifespan.

    I have a few, but they are PC133 (not DDR) boards. I don't know if they still run however, because they have been sitting in a box for a loooong time. They will only run Tbirds, or Paliminos (I believe a 2100 is a Palimino). You can have them for free, but I'm not bench testing the boards first...

    Well, just look at the TOTAL GHz to get a pretty accurate indication of crunching power. For example a quad at 3.0GHz is 12GHz total. A dual at 4GHz is 8GHz total. 12GHz will wipe the floor with 8GHz everytime. This is valid to compare total total GHz because they are the same arch. I also...

    They are remote machines, that I don't visit often. The older of DPAD version will not accept new work, so they are not crunching. Whenever I get a chance to upgrade to the new version on those machines I will.

    Funny you mention medical research... Myself, along with many other ATers run our computers 24//7 to do that. Anyway I like AMD and Intel. But, a C2D is your best option rite now.

    The stock cooler is pretty quiet. If you don't OC much, it will be fine. You need better coolers when you start overvolting the CPU to get higher OC's. However, if you want a better HSF, I'd reccomend the Thermalright ultra 120, or Tuniq tower.

    See, one thing you can't have when you run DC 24/7 is not have any crashes. You are talking to a few ppl that have systems runing 24/7 at 100% CPU load. I see NO problem with either CPU. You must be doing something wrong.

    I had the same issue with a 10,000 RPM Raptor, and a 7,200 RPM drive mounted next to each other. The different RPM's caused a repeating vibration in waves (very annoying). The rubber washers took care of it completely. The washer has to be between the drive itself, and the cage.

    I've flashed my machines OC'ed many times. I run DC however, so my systems are constantly under 100% load. I think that re-qualifies the flash in and of itself.
