I have a SONY VAIO PCG-953A and the hard drive has failed. I can't find the conventional way to remove the hard drive, thru a panel on the bottom. Only thing it could be is to remove the entire bottom of the laptop. I'm not THAT versed in taking apart laptops and really need some advice here...
Thank you so much AllGamer. I really appreciate yer advice and everyone elses too! You guys here at Anandtech have always helped me, just wanted to say thank you.
I'll give it a shot. I'll make sure to set a different windows directory. If I set it to maybe c:\WindowsXP instead of...
Thank you all for your input.
What about problems I've heard of? Is there anyone who's actually DONE this? No offense, but I can't take a 'chance' that my laptop won't boot up (has vista on it) once I 'attempt' installation of XP Pro as the secondary boot. If I could get someone's opinion...
I am considering purchasing a laptop. Most laptops come with Vista on it, and I am interested in making the laptop dual boot with Windows XP Pro. I've been reading for quite some time and only came across a post or two saying they've had difficulties but no one mentioning any specific...
And what do you think of this one compaired to the one pkrush linked....or should I stick with the one pkrush linked? I am a FIRM lover of BFG:
Here's The Link
Okay guys. First, thanks fer the info! :)
Lemme clear something up. That 256mb one you (pkrush) suggested is better than the 512mb one that I first mentioned?
I'm looking into getting a GIGABYTE GV-NX76G512P-RH video card. HERE IS THE LINK TO THE VIDEO CARD
I'm upgrading from an older Chaintech AMD Athlon XP motherboard to a newer AMD Athlon 64 motherboard. My old motherboard has an AGP slot with a BFG Nvidia FX5200 256mb video card (AGP of...
I just changed the slots where my RAM is to split them up with one empty slot in between the two (3 slots total), and Dual Channel is now active. Doing some research on this problem, I stumbled across this. I dunno if this is going to effect my particular problem, but having Dual Channel is nice.
Also, info I obtained from Everest:
DIMM2: Micron Tech. 16VDDT6464AG-40BGB
DIMM3: Micron Tech. 16VDDT6464AG-40BGB
{I don't understand why it says DIMM2 & DIMM3, I put the RAM in the appropriate slots as definied by the mb. Maybe I'm just off on what exactly the above is pointing out.}...
Okay, here is what CPU-Z has to say about my RAM:
Type: DDR
Size: 1024 {In 2 chips actually...two 512's}
Channels: Single
Frequency: 167.1 MHz {I recently allowed AUTO on the timings..not by SPD}
FSB:DRAM: 1:1
CAS# Latency: 2.5 clocks
RAS# to CAS# Delay: 3 clocks
RAS# Precharge...
First off, I am in dire need of help in configuring my CPU EXACTLY as is necessary for full performance.
The main reason I am asking right now is that I have already configured it to work properly....yet when I have to do a 'REBOOT', it will hang (freeze) on either startup or when windows...
Okay, can anyone SUGGEST a power supply from newegg that is in about the 500w capacity that would do good on my system and last a while? Again, a $100-$120 limit. Please help guys. Thanks. I feel like an idiot cause I don't know about the brand or such on many power supplies....but this...
What I mean't actually, was I'm having trouble deciding what Amperage (not voltage....corrected that). :) Bad night when I posted. Was getting frustrated.
Also, some opinions about the following PSU would be MUCH appreciated:
APEVIA (ASPIRE) ATX-AS500W-BL ATX12V 500W Power Supply
See, I'm looking to spend no more than $100 on a PSU (MAYBE $120)....and I need something that is going to last a while. I am ordering from newegg, since that's...
I am trying to choose a new PSU. My dilema is something that I'm not used to. PSU's with 'dual voltage'. My question is this: With dual voltage, what is the purpose? For example:
Let's say you have a dual voltage PSU. I'm going to use the "MSI TurboStream 600W BTX 600Watts Power Supply...
I forgot to mention something. Once I get my pc to boot up, it has NO problems....and I can shut it down and power it back up through out the day with no problems.
I have a Curtis power console, and it shows status for Wiring & Surge...both maintain green, so that's okay. It just may be the end of this motherboard. That'll be a shame....but I do have another, better board. I've just been waiting, since I wanted a new tower to put it in. Don't know how...
Well, actually, it started when I had the 160 gig in, but I had already ordered the 300 gig, so the 300 is now in as my primary....so it had this problem before....just for the past 2 weeks or less.
My power supply is an Aero Cool 450 Watt with 26 amps on the 12v rail. It's been doing so...
My system specs are listed below. I'm just curious what would you guys think would be the FIRST thing I should look at in this situation:
I turn my computer on, the power comes on, then it automatically shuts off after a second or two. Now, I have a power console surge protector, so I can...
Please don't laugh....(I'm giggling myself anyhow)....but my Mother has a Qrium (Yuk!) PC...model number CD663N that came with Windows 98SE. I have been successful at converting to Windows XP Pro....with the exception of the sound drivers.
If anyone has had any success getting the Qrium...
I am working on a system that has the following error code whenever the owners of the system try to check their email on msn messenger:
ERROR THE SPECIFIED MODULE COULD NOT BE FOUND [UNICOWS.DLL]
They have installed the new version....still comes up. UNINSTALLED it and reinstalled it...
Okay, I see now where that is listed on the back of my lt. lol. :( It turns out that this is a 740cdt...which will work with that power supply as well....now I just need to find the specs on this thing to make sure it would be worth it to me to get it.
Dreamer
I just got a laptop given to me and I need to get a power cord for it...BUT...as you all know, power cord (with ac adapter's) are VERY expensive, so I need to identify the specs on this laptop before I go thru the trouble of buying the power supply. I know it's probably not much...but I have a...
The Ultimate Boot CD sorta worked...there's still a 2 or 6 MB hidden partition. I wish I could just start fresh with this drive. I dunno why it's gotta be so difficult. I use the SATA software from the Western Digital site and doesn't get rid of it. The closest I could come was use TUBCD...
I have a Western Digital, 250 Gig SATA 7200rpm Caviar hard drive (model: WD2500JD). I need a copy of the original CD that came with this drive. I'm sure the CD that came with a 200 Gig WD Caviar SATA 7200rpm would work as well...not necessarily the disc that came with this particular model...
This is the firmware I'm using on BOTH:
DVR109_FW140.exe - Version 1.40 provides improved readability of DAO(Direct-At-Once) DVD-R and DVD-RW discs by some DVD-ROM drives--including those in some Pioneer In-Dash DVD Multimedia AV/Navigation Receivers, supports 6X writing speeds on Verbatim...
I realize that a burner is cheap enough...my only complaint is the audio cd problem. It's not that big of a deal, I just want Pioneer to do something about it.
I haven't tried Verbatim I don't think...but I will. Maxell didn't do it with audio. I am using the same firmware as you....and I...
