Do I need to uninstal MS Office if building a new machine?

I'm building a new machine and will be reinstalling all the software. Do I need to uninstall MS Office (2007) from the old box before reinstalling it on the new box? I wasn't sure if MS tracks serial number to MAC address or something along those lines. Thanks! Dave

How is data stored across 2 drives in RAID0?

Right... I followed that part... asking it differently, assuming a 2 Disk, 3 platter drive (labled below as P0, P1, P2)... which one of the following is correct for 12 chuncks of data sequentially written? Option1: Disk 0 P0: Data0, Data6 Disk 0 P1: Data2, Data8 Disk 0 P2: Data4, Data10...

How is data stored across 2 drives in RAID0?

I'm looking at building a computer with two WD Black 750GB Drives (3 platter I believe) in RAID 0. Ideally, I'd like to partition the drives so I have one OS/Application partition, and the other would contain data. I'd also like to have the OS + apps sitting on the furthest outside of the drives...

Huh... amazing what a working case fan can do. Had picked up the mid level Scythe S-Flex fan... CPU temps dropped 10 degrees C and the CPU fan has slowed down tremmendously.

Thanks for all the advice and links! I'll adding some thermal paste to the order. I don't plan on a huge overclock... but if it helps save a few degrees C, it *may* lead to lower fan speeds and quieter would be nice. Incidentally, my current cpu cooler (standard dual core opteron) started...

Best non-integrated alternative to AMD 785G chipset mobos?

This may be either A) obvious or B) doesn't matter... But if planning on driving Dual Monitors, you won't be able to use the HDMI & DVI outputs at the same time. I didn't realize this before I ordered a 785G motherboard. Hoping to help avoid a similar "doh" moment. Dave

I have two monitors and was intending to drive one via DVI and the other via HDMI and I thought this chipset would support that. I just got in a MB and the user guide is saying it is explicitly not supported. I'm holding out hope that this is a documentation error. :) I thought I had...

Yeah... Admittedly, I was a bit confused. There are a couple boards (Asus, Biostar) that take DDR2... after looking again I saw that the Gigabyte boards take DDR3. Sorry about that. Dave

Yeah... seems like a decent price for DDR2. Personally, I've been holding off to build a reasonably solid performing machine at a reasonable expense. I debated a while, but I'm going to go down the AMD 620 route with one of the 785G based MBs... I don't happen to game at all, but needed...

Was wondering what the conventional wisdom was comparing the two xfx cards. Physically, it looks like it's just a fan delta? Wondering if one fan was quieter than another. Also wondering if the memory chips are the same. The reviews seem relatively similar - generally positive for both...

Recently rebooting abit av8

I didn't try clearing the cmos... can do that... I have a antec sonata with their true power 380 PSU. I had been running at 280MHz FSB with no issues. Don't have many power hungery peripherals (9600 based Video Card, 120GB Segate, 1Gig Corsair PC3200 (2x512), NEC 3500 DVD drive)... I'll try...

Recently rebooting abit av8

Had been overclocking my A64 3000+ a bit... everything was fine and dandy for about a month, and then all of a sudden... my computer started rebooting about every 15-20 seconds after windows gets loaded. I ended up putting everything back to stock speeds... Was able to boot iin safe mode...

I think you mean N60. D60 is a Canon camera. All Nikon lenses will "work". Some of the earlier AI and AIS (I believe this is correct) lenses will not meter correctly (these are also manual focus lenses). Nikkor AF lenses will meter correctly. Be carefull with some 3rd party lenses...

Abit AV8 Overclocking

I was having similar difficulties... I can't remember all the last few changes I made before I got it to work... but one of the things I did was change the PCI latency to 64 as superkdog suggests. I also had fst writes disabled... HTT set 2, fsb is set to 280... I upped the Vcore on the cpu to...

Overclocking with ABIT AV8

I'm running at 280 fine now... I increased the cpu voltage to 1.55V and increased PCI latency to 64 (based on superkdogg's comments)... 3DMark03 ran cleanly... supper PI ran fine, and ran Prime95 overnight with no issues... Question... at what point should I be worried about temps? Idle...

Overclocking with ABIT AV8

Well.... played around a little more... was able to get to a FSB of 280... memory using the 266 divider, and I was able to get cas latency down to 2... only when the resultant memory was a bit < 200, and I was using the 8-2-1 setting for the AGP lock. Superpi ran well... but 3DMark03 crashed...

Thanks ChineseDemocracyGNR and superkdogg! I'll try 3DMark03 and experiement a little tonight and tomorrow morning. I'll try cas 2 as well... can't hurt to try that as well... Even if I don't get much higher... really can't complain about running at 250 stable. :-)

I was wondering... where did you find the Soltek mobo for $70 shipped? Hasn't it been $89 for quite some time at New Egg? Hope I didn't miss out on a good deal. I've been eyeing this mobo for sometime while trying to decide between 754 and 939... for $70 my decision will be made. :-)
