Anyone Tested Whether Unlocking Pipes/Shaders Really Does Anything?

whats with the mac version of the nvidia 6800?

Did you guys notice that this video card doesn't use the Molex power adapters like the PC version does? So it must be doing it's own power regulating. (That's my big engineering talk.)

9600 is a piss poor card?

Whick LCD

I would go with the Viewsonic. I heard that the Benq is slightly cheap in manufacturing. So the silver coloring is easily scratched. Plus viewsonic I think has a longer warranty. The size doesn't matter. 17" is plenty I think. Remember, most 19" CRT's only have 18" viewable.

Looking at getting new video card any recomendations?

The 6600 GT is probably the best deal for the money. The 9700 pro is a little old in my opinion. As for pipes, the 6600 GT has 8 pipes and they are all open. The only two big difference between 6600 GT and 6800 GT is 128-bit versus 256-bit and also 8 pipes versus 16 pipes respectively.

I think it depends on the game that you are playing. In the second half of year '04, the DX9 games are using more of the newer FX and GeForce 6, and ATI x series video instructions. If you are playing a flight sim like from MS, I would think it would be using DX8 or even DX7. So the GeForce 4...

I would just go with the most afforable PCI-X card you are willing to spend on. Doesn't have to be 256mb card, or top of the line ATI/Nvidia. Just get something that your system supports that you feel comfortable spending the money on. Chances are you won't suffer with the performance...

BFG 6800OC w/rivatuner

My guess is, you aren't too lucky with that card. However, I've heard of people that we able to unlock the vertex shader and still overclock without artifacts. So, keep tweaking until you find the perfect balance. Remember to do small increments of core/memory speed, or you might regret it.
