The reason I asked is because my previous two RAID 0 setups had a much lower sequential read (150mb/s and 200mb/s). This setup is a lot faster.
I did a little research and found that these drives are single platter 1tb drives so they have a very high areal density. Maybe that's why I got such...
I've replaced my two old 500GB Hitachi drives with two 1TB WD black (in RAID 0) and was surprised to get such a high number in HD Tune. I'm happy with the numbers but I was wondering if they are real. I'm using a X58 chip set that only supports SATA II 3gbit/sec. Here is the screnshot...
My main system is still a Core i7 920 @3.4Ghz (3.6Ghz turbo). I have not felt the need to upgrade yet. This is one of the best processors that Intel has released in my opinion.
Were did you see the info on the SMART data being wiped out by GoHardDrive? I looked around in Amazon and new egg and got tired of reading reviews. I did not see that mentioned anywhere. Maybe the user bought a refurbished item. I know I always check to see if they say "New" before buying...
120GB is cutting it close even for many business. I work for a state agency and I'm seeing some PCs run out of space with 160GB drive. Most of our data is on the network so most of the space is been eating up by large apps. Our division has been upgrading these HDD to 500GB.
For consumers...
You can count on the HDD platter density to continue to increase in the next few years. I don't see SSD replacing HDD by 2020. It's too early to say for sure but most likely be closer to 10 years from today.
There is no way. Most entry level PC come with 1TB drives now days. The majority of people are going to need more 120GB storage on a PC. Anyway, price/GB is not even close.
HDD will continue to be the main storage device for a very long time. SSD are simply not cost effective for regular consumers and will not be for many years to come.
I've been hearing that SSD are about to overtake HDD in price for last 5+ years but that never happened. SSDs are still...
Windows 7 has a backup utility that does system images. Make sure to create a restore DVD and have another hard drive to hold the image. The image will not be compressed so expect the image to be big.
I have photo and video editing software and everything worked fine for me. I don't have...
That drive is probably a 5400 or 5900rpm drive. If you are planing to use it as your main boot drive it will be slow.
If you are looking for something economical then you could get something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA5AD3KU1804
The White Label (WL)...
I will also suggest checking the memory with memtest86 first. CPU failing at stock speed is very unusual. It's more likely that something else is wrong.
I'll be surprised if they bring back the start menu as an option at all. It will be the death of Metro on the desktop PC judging by how unpopular it is.
Because even common function are very difficult to find.

Except for an add-on apps like Start8 and command line stuff (which most common users don't know about) users must deal with "metro" to get apps and configure the system. From their point of...
I'm glad I decided not to wait for the 7770 and got the HD6870 ($140 AR) instead a month ago. The performance of the 7770 is way too weak at that price point.
I suspect that the new architecture has something to do with the delay. I remember Nvidia having similar delay when the 8800 series was released. It will take a while for AMD's driver team to pick up the pace for the new code. AMD might also feel it's better to release driver updates for the...
I am also switching to AMD but I am only getting a 6870 (the 7970 is too expensive). That should give me ~50% boost compare to my GTX260+.
I think Radeon driver issues are a thing of the past (used to have Radeon Le and 8500LE). My son has a 5670 and it has been a very good card.
Brand...
I was referering to excesive system paging (virtual memory). With no apps running the Win XP memory usage will be ~700MB. XP will relinquish memory to application when needed but will use more virtual memory. This will lead to larger page memory swaps and sometimes system thrashing. About...
Except his system is probably using integrated graphic which will use a chunck of the system RAM. I am willing to bet that his OS is paging when opening MS Word or maybe even IE.
I suggest adding a AMD 6670 video card for added speed and to free up that RAM. Still 1gb would be cutting it...
To me it was obvious that the OP was refering to the GPGPU capabilities of Fermi which has been attacked by some people when it was released as a waste of die space.
Fermi GPGPU strategy has been further validated by AMD as the future of GPUs so I think the comparison of valid...at least from...
The OP stated:
If that's all it will be used for then I don't see how an six core will be of any benefit even in the future. The i3 will be cheaper and lower power consumption plus it has a built in graphic which should be enough for general purpose. Also the i3 should have about equal...
The 1090T is only a good deal if you are planning on using all six cores.
Otherwise it gets spanked by even the 2100k unless you overclock the six core to > 3.8. I doubt that web brower, email and itunes will use that many cores in the foreseeable future. You should also be able to find cheap...
If you are looking for a NVidia card between $150 -$200 and process video @1080p then this might be a good choice:

Even if 3X were to be true we are still looking at speeds comparable to entry level discrete cards from AMD and Nvidia. It is safe to say it will not be playable (way less than 30fps) on high quality 1920 X1200.
