monitor popping

Older Trinitrons do this when theyre on their last leg. I had a Sony G500 21 incher do the same thing. It led a good life, I just used it till it didnt wake up from sleep one day...

A8N-SLI DeLuxe Memory Timings

marciorr, let us know how 2 sticks works out. I had a buddy who also had problems running 4 sticks with any kind of overclock or timing tweaks. Everything I have seen points to 4 sticks being problematic at tight timings of any kind, whether it be command rate or CAS lantency, etc. I forget...

See my sig for the timings I'm running. Also, since youre running 4 sticks, 1T command rate is outta the question. And running 2-2-2-5 on 4 sticks is also hit and miss, I think.

3000+ Venice temp. at 29C on K8N Neo2 Platinum?

Arent Venice core A64s supposed to be cooler than Winchester and previous cores? My Winny idles at 30c, but I am also watercooling, and running a mild overclock.

I agree Insomniak, except that it is a pity that the A8N SLI Deluxe is the only board with this problem when it comes to overclocking. Regardless, I'm still pretty happy with mine overall.

OK, back on topic. Is this BIOS worth flashing to for people running 1008 or later? I mean, aside from supporting dual core procs, has ANYTHING been done to warrant upgrading to this BIOS version?

Oh Noes!! My Asus A8N-SLI is Hanging! (Possible Sound Blaster Problem!)

11.584 isnt too good for a 12v rail, however if you got this reading from anything that wasnt a multimeter, I wouldnt put too much trust in it.

A8N-SLI Deluxe 1011.001 beta bios is out!

Asus is having a BIOS-O-RAMA!!! As usual, is this one doing ANYTHING better than previous? After the last few updates, I really dont see the point in flashing unless there's something to make it worth my time.

Azureus and SLI

I run Azureus all the time. With no issues at all. Since it needs Java runtimes, try updating your Java to latest version, etc.

ASUS A8N-SLI DeLuxe - Wich BIOS?

I'd still get that 12v reading with a multimeter. My powerstream reads 11.92 on the board's BIOS sensor, but with a multimeter, I found it was pushing 12.1 volts. Sensors are always off by varying degrees.

the same FSB we could reach at 1004 and up... around 250. Any higher at 1:1 ratio and the board gets cranky. Move along, nothing to see here, unfortunately.

Yawn... still on 1007 final here. And even that BIOS showed no kind of improvement really. Wake me up when they release version 1200. Which still wont fix 1T issue prolly. Bleh.

Sata HDD on an A8n-SLI

I never heard a resolution anywhere, man. Supposedly Maxtor had updated firmware for the drives, but it wasnt available via the web, you had to jump thru tech support email hoops to get it. I had 2 Maxtor 160gig SATAs that would show up and disappear on the Nvidia controller randomly, but my...

BOOT new A8N and VENICE core with early bios

I think that's what he just said, man. All A8N SLI boards on the market so far, all are rev 1.02 hardware. The shipping BIOS at launch was version 1001, but 1002 was released 8 days later, so the vast majority of boards are running 1002 or newer BIOS.

This isnt the case for me. I have the same problem with my 160GB Maxtor RAID 1 array on the Silicon Image controller. There seems to be a problem of some kind with how the controller manages RAID 1 volumes. If you were to setup a RAID 1 mirror on the NV controller instead, this would prove my...

What are some good BH-5 ram for oc'ing?

You could get some RAM based on TCCD chips and get performance pretty much as good as BH-5 based stuff with less volts going to RAM... theres much more TCCD based stuff to choose from anyway.

I have a Winchester and have had no problems to speak of with ANY BIOS revision that Asus has released. I also agree with Insomniak, OCing seems to be best with 1004.

Yet another BETA Asus A8N SLI-DELUXE Bios

Try upping that to 275 or so, while keeping your CPU/MEM ratio at 1:1 (using the DDR400 setting in DRAM settings) and 1T command rate. Since the board's release, nobody has been able to achieve high overclocks with 1T CMD rate while running 1:1 ratio.

Anyone think the A8N-SLI Deluxe chipset is not noisy?

If youre going for a silent system (think HTPC, or the like) the stock chipset fan on this board is simply WAY too loud. However, for a gaming rig running multiple mid-to-high CFM fans, the chipset fan noise isnt noticeable. To each their own...

4 sticks of anything isnt a great idea, performance-wise. You'll have to use less aggressive timings, as well as a 2T command rate if you run 4 sticks. Do you need more than 1 gig of RAM?

Tyan K8WE and suspend-to-ram (S3), any luck?

Its a shame that a board as pricey and hardcore as the Thunder K8WE has problems with S3 sleep... I can do it on my A8N SLI Deluxe fine, but I have a RAID 1 mirror on the Slicon Image controller and if I S3 sleep, the RAID 1 array has to resync itself for some reason upon waking the machine...

PCI vs. PCI-X

Exactly. I have an LSI SCSI controller that will run on PCI-X at 133mhz, but since it supports 5V signalling as well as 3.3V, I could run it in my A8N SLI, albeit downclocked to regular ol' 33mhz PCI speeds (which would negate any REAL performance increase I would get from running a SCSI drive...

The fact that Venice will allow 4 songle sided DIMMS to do DDR400 at 1T and 4 double sided DIMMS to work AT ALL (at DDR400 2T) is nice.

What do you do when you're RAID Controller Dies?

OK, my experience with recovering mirrored disks when the controller dies is: as long as you replace the controller with another one that uses the SAME CHIPSET, you should be fine. IE, if you run a Silicon Image 3112 controller and the it dies, any other controller based on the SI 3112...
