    Future of hardware

by that time dual core processors should be out. you could probably get a lower-end dual core at a decent price, but dependent the brand you'll need to be careful about motherboards. the new ati r520 chip should be out by then, so you should also be able to find a decent mid-range vid card.

I need help building my firneds comp

agreed. both amd and intel perform very well. amd is a bit better for gaming, while intel is more application oriented. you really cant go wrong with either and the more they compete, the lower their prices will be for us, the end-user.

    New Rig I am building

price on that mobo is high of high. i got mine for $199 at zipzoomfly on a special deal. is your cpu the newcastle or winchester core? i'd recommend winchester since it runs a bit cooler. for your gpu, 6600gts are good, but go for the 6800gt if you've got the $$$ to spend.

i like my xfx 6800gt pci-e, but my friend has the ati x800pro agp. both come in agp and pci-e flavors so take your pick. depends upon your use really, but ati is optimized for HL2, while nvidia is optimized for doom 3, etc. both are actually good products. just got to watch out for price...

Changing processor later down the road is easy?

ya, if you've got a chipset that fits 939pin processors, just make sure you get another 939pin processor down the road if you upgrade.

Changing processor later down the road is easy?

shouldn't be any problem swapping out cpu's as long as the socket sizes are the same in the "new" core you swap in. also, at some point, you may need to do a bios update as well.
