No, that's not why the went backwards.
Cars in the 1970's got horrible gas mileage because gas was so cheap. When the oil crisis hit gas prices skyrocketed. All of a sudden consumers demanded more fuel efficient cars and automakers produced them. By the early 1980's you had a lot of small...
Is there any way the mods can look up my old account to see when I joined? I know it was in 1997 but I've since lost that account and don't think it exists anymore.
I joined sometime in 1997, so it's probably closer to 12 years for me. I had a different screen name back then.
If you go to the Wayback machine and go to the earliest archive for the Anandtech BBS, I'm listed on that page: link
I joined looking for information about the K6.
There is no such thing as "free energy". It all has to come from somewhere.
It takes a certain amount of energy to compress the incoming air, and you can be certain that the compressor will put more load on the turbine (which drives it). The claim that that becomes some kind of perpetual...
I disagree. There is nothing wrong with spending money on a grade school playground, and making people go to school longer isn't the answer to the problem. People need to have a mentality where learning is a lifelong endeavor, it should be something that they want to do, not be forced to do...
I have a question for you:
The spec sheet says that it's 115 volts and 1.5 amps. Then it says the wattage is 100 watts.
Shouldn't 115x1.5= 172.5 watts?
I think your belief that mixed race children are smarter than non-mixed race children is fundamentally wrong.
You're making it sound as if the chance of an intelligent couple having intelligent kids vs. not-so-intelligent kids is 50/50 since there are 2 choices. However, that is not how...
I just listened to it and it doesn't negate anything I said. As I said before:
"You could also explain the same affect by claiming that more intelligent parents are likely to have a better vocabulary, and by inheritance, their children will have a higher intelligence whether they've ever...
There is no problem with it, but I think people aren't being straightforward about their motivations. Is it that they want to see a brilliant scientist knighted or is it that they want to see a gay guy knighted? One of those reasons seems to be a legit reason to knight someone while the other...
Turing was a great scientist, but I think most of his hardcore fans are gay dudes who like him primarily because he was gay. It's as if he's a rallying cry for the gay rights cause. For instance, it seems that most of the posters who are pushing the issue in here are frequently seen in...
I'm not so sure he's correct there. I've seen so many people who don't understand the specs of their equipment. For instance, many devices have a low native resolution but "support" 1080p, and they think it will display 1080p.
This is incorrect. I have a 30" CRT HDTV (my room is small) and it's easy to tell the difference between station that broadcast in 720p vs. 1080i. I think a lot of people have 720p LCD TVs and they (obviously) can't tell the difference since the TV can't display it.
This isn't true.
We lived with 525i for years and years. Just because it's interlaced doesn't mean it's bad. 1080i looks noticeably better than 720p on a TV that can properly display interlaced video.
You could also explain the same affect by claiming that more intelligent parents are likely to have a better vocabulary, and by inheritance, their children will have a higher intelligence whether they've ever heard their parents speak or not.
To determine whether genetics or upbringing had...
This is definitely not true. The group with the highest IQ is Ashkenazi Jews, and they have some of the least genetic diversity and often suffer from genetic problems related to a lack of genetic diversity. The next highest from what I hear is Eastern Asians such as the Japanese, another group...
If I recall, you always predict that Dallas is going to crush Philly and the Eagles always seem to rain on your parade. Besides that, your picks are all completely clueless.
That's because in most social games (which includes the business world), conformity pays. It's highly enviable to be someone who tries hard and succeeds, but if you outperform the pack too easily people view you as a threat and want you removed.
It's funny you mention that. When I was about 12 (back in the 80's) they gave me an IQ test, too. I guess they wanted to see if I did poorly in school because it was too hard or if it was too easy for me.
I scored 143 on the long test. On those short internet IQ tests I get about 20-30 points...
Why do you even waste your time every year? Your predictions are awful and completely off the mark every year. And you seem to always think Dallas will be good and they suck each time.
At least you can plagiarize someone who has a clue.
Why?
I think gay marriage should be legalized but I still think it's stupid that an ice cream company is making a stand on the issue. That's just a dumb business move.
If an ice cream brand wants to take a stand on a political issue, they better expect that they'll lose some customers because of it.
Personally, I think they should just stick to what they do best- selling ice cream and making people fat.
