    Radeon Vega Frontier Released

Same issue for me, but I don't think it's overheating, rather the thing draws way more power than it should with it's boost speeds and my power supply cant keep up. Previous cards maxed at 250w but this is really like a 375w card, even the air cooled version. However in gaming mode you can use...

    dual 4K capable GPU

GTX1070 is supposed to be $379 when it hits retail availability. I think you really just need any graphics card with multiple display ports. I think a Geforce GTX 960 (~$150) would work. A quick look on newegg at cards with multiple displayports and supporting 4k resolution gives: Radeon R9...

Dual GPU by way of a DX12 API plugin?

This is pretty light on details so it's impossible to know what this is, but here's my bet: forced DX12 multiadapter in any game. That explains the wording (a pairing of a weak gpu with a strong one rather than a SLI type setup), and it really is something that could be forced. Post processing...

Making System Calls from User Space using Linux Assemblers

X86 and DOS are really the wrong place to start if you want to learn how modern computers work. You'd be better off getting a guide on embedded ARM development and one of the low end ARM boards, like a raspberry pi. Much less baggage and simpler to learn. Even simpler still would be something...

Steam Controller owners - what do you think?

I like the feel of the Steam controller. And it does a decent job of making mouse and keyboard games playable on a controller, and the touchpad is pretty decent as a substitution for a mouse. That said, it is no where near as good as a mouse and keyboard, and I'd probably still pick an Xbox...

How much internship/relevant work experience do college students usually have?

Take one less class a semester and pick up a (relevant) part-time job instead. 10 hours a week should be doable and will look a lot better than graduating a semester or two earlier.

How much internship/relevant work experience do college students usually have?

The ideal is that you should have a full time internship every summer, and part time ones during the school year. You can come into the workforce claiming degree + a few years of experience.

NYC has Longest avg commute: 35 minutes one way

I had a coworker who lived in Florida, where mcmansions were dirt cheap. He'd book flights well in advance, fly up North on a Monday, work crazy long hours for 3 days in a row, sleep in a used van he bought, dry clean his clothes, and shower at work, then he would return home to Florida. Got a...

    Anyone else disappointed with gsync?

Vsync makes sure there's no tearing. No vsync means no stuttering, vsync causes stuttering. Gsync/freesync are vsync without stuttering. 7970 doesn't support freesync. Only GCN1.1 and newer cards. I've got freesync and love it. Couldn't stomach the cost for a Gsync setup.

Anybody here an Uber or Lyft driver?

I'm for this, it's a shame that ex-criminals, who have already served their time, are basically turned into unemployable second class citizens. As long as it was non-violent crime, these people should be employable after they've served their time to society.

anyway to control pandora and youtubeon my pc from a smartwatch?

anyway to control pandora and youtubeon my pc from a smartwatch?

The Pine Neptune isn't a smartwatch, it's a phone in a watch form factor. An actual smartwatch doesn't run phone apps, it runs smart watch apps and connects to the phone. There's 3 options: iWatch for iPhone Android Wear watches and Pebble, which works best with Android (but can work with...

anyway to control pandora and youtubeon my pc from a smartwatch?

If you use XBMC (now Kodi), they have a good phone app. Personally, I have a pair of Creative speakers that plug into my computer but can also simultaneously do bluetooth directly to a phone. And the Chromecast (audio or video version) works via wifi, so it'll have the range of your wifi...

I'm all for free college, but I'm not all for everyone having a guaranteed right to college. I'd be fine if we adopted the German system. The top ~25% coming out of middle school/high school get put on a track towards free college, the rest get some lesser level of education (still for free, if...

Kid IQ tests are a real thing. My middle school had all the "gifted" kids take it, and several of us scored well over 160. Can someone explain what values to put for Multimedia Class Scheduler for gaming?

I read it as: Task priority ranges from 1 (low) to 8 (high). However, the scheduling category overrides this, so that if scheduling category is High, then the priority value is set to 2. That said, I find it highly suspect that there would be one overriding registry key that would effect the...

Federal Employees' Wages Growing Faster Than Everybody Else’s

This is funny to me, because the exact opposite argument is used to explain why the best and brightest (at least among technical fields) are leaving government in droves. The statement is always that the government can't afford to pay for the best engineers, programmers, (insert high value job...

Nintendo signs up for AMD in latest model - Fudzilla

Sega was broke by the time of the Dreamcast, and both Microsoft and Sony were willing to offer them incentives to be 3rd party. The system was cheap to make, had a decent attach rate, and sold decently, if Sega hadn't been bleeding money, they could have stayed in the game.

DX12 / Vulcan and new GPU architecture (?)

That's a pretty good explanation. You can do all game calculations two ways, independent of the framerate, or synced to the framerate. Console games used to (and may still be) synced tightly to the framerate, so gameplay actually changes if framerate changes. PC games moved away from that a...

DX12 / Vulcan and new GPU architecture (?)

Lighting can be computed in two ways. The classic way of doing it is forward rendering. You basically have to rerender the scene for each light to compute the change in lighting, so your performance is cut by 1/# lights. It's hard to get above about 8 lights in a scene like this, but it...

DX12 / Vulcan and new GPU architecture (?)

Kinematics modeling and lighting are both physics, but they are computed separately. Games don't use a Grand Unified Theory of everything. Now then, lighting is still dependent on object positions. Most likely they just do time steps. For instance, Physx typically runs at 50hz, so 50 times a...

Xbox 360 and XBone which cpu has better single core performance?

Xbox 360 and XBone which cpu has better single core performance?

Xbox One wins by basically any metric. Comparing versus the Cell would be a closer competition though, where the much higher peak floating point performance of Cell would be tough for the Xbox One to overcome on a mixed workload.

The official Nintendo NX rumours and wild speculation thread

Well, perhaps Xbox 360 games were compiled to .net intermediate code? That would make them possible to recompile. Otherwise, it's likely they just have a much better emulator than is typical. Intel's cpus emulate powerful ARM processors on phones at a decent rate, so a few million dollars spent...

    Original XBOX designed with AMD

This was known when the Xbox was launching, it was hyped that it was going to use an 800Mhz Duron. A Duron was AMD's version of a Celeron, but performed about on par clock for clock with Pentium 3's of that time, so in general it would have whooped the Celeron. I think a P3 based Celeron may...

AMD & NV image quality comparison

    Fury Nano is Full Fiji

Hopefully AMD has a mobile version, Fury Nano would make for a beastly DTR laptop. I'm surprised you didn't buy another Titan, or sell the Titan. In Batman, SLI barely works, so dedicating one card to physx may actually outperform sli cards, but it won't be like that in most games. (batman extensively uses physx too)
