Dishwashing a keyboard.

Unplug before soaking. ;) Pure water is an insulator, so shouldn't matter anyway. Just don't wash the keyboard with Pepsi or coffee.

I've seen those archaic IBM keyboards (the big ones you could use as a weapon) soaked in the bathtub overnight, then dried for a couple days. Worked fine after that. Just don't use soap :o

Flight Simulator 2004 resources...

FS2004.com - 100 or so downloads, but all cream of the crop freeware. Better known for their forum. avsim.com - huge directory of downloads, but up and down lately.

Question about NiMH batteries?

The batteries are uncharged so you'll have to charge them up before use. Whether or not the charger will overcharge batteries depends on whether or not it samples the battery to see when it's charged, has a built-in timer to auto-shutoff the charging circuit (after 6 hours in your case), or...

Question about NiMH batteries?

The best charger I've seen (I've had one for over a year and it rocks) is the Rayovac 1-hour charger for only $29 (Walmart link again - no I don't work for them :P). It can safely charge NICD or NIMH cells in 1 hour because it checks the levels of each cell independently every 6 seconds! When...

Yes, NIMH batteries are best in situations where large surges of current are needed for a short period of time (i.e., the flash of your camera, radio control vehicles, etc). NIMH lose roughly 3% of their charge every day, so they aren't the best solution for long-term use in clocks, etc...

What's the difference btw Pioneer 106s and 106s/2?

I was just wondering exactly the same thing. I can't find info about their differences anywhere on the web, even at Pioneer's site :P Anyone have some more light to shed? I know newer isn't always better, especially with DVD drives.

Q3A based games making me sick. HELP!

All that eye candy will end up in your barf bag if the framerate suffers. Movement in the game should be perfectly smooth (no jerkiness). For a test, try lowering all your settings (try 1024x768 with all details on low) and see if your headaches/nausiness goes away ;)

Partition software

Driveworks is #1 in my book, although it isn't free. I've resized 60gb partitions full of data a couple times with not one crash yet.

I had the same problem until I used *gulp* Windows Update and got the latest patches. It was shortly after I had those problems that I upgraded to WinXP and haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood).

DVD-R Drives?

I got the Pioneer A03 (2x) and it seems quite good. The Pioneer A04 is recently released, so you should be able to get an A03 cheap (try compgeeks, I've seen it for ~$400). I haven't been watching the A04, so I don't know what the price will be. Know your media types before buying a drive...

I need a good budget CD Writer (under US$85)

Another vote for Lite-on. They rule! I bought a 24x Lite-on from Newegg for $80 a couple months ago, and it has not failed me once (I've burned well over 100 CDs by now, not one coaster). The audio extraction speed is 24x, which is quite good (I can rip a CD at 192kbps in under 3 minutes)...

tell me what you dislike about XP

I wish they hadn't integrated MSN Messenger. I know it can be removed but I actually use it (when it's working :P). The most annoying thing about it now is that you can't shut it down without closing Outlook and other programs "used by MSN." Course you can always End Task it but that sucks...

How do I make boot disks so I can clean install WinXP Pro?

Just create a Win98 startup floppy (bootdisks.com) and optionally add the file "smartdrv.exe" from c:\windows\command on a Win98 system. Boot to the floppy, run smartdrive, then run "d:\i386\winnt" (where d: is the CD).

Software program for getting pics off digicam

Try Ofoto's image program. It's free (I don't think you even have to sign up for it), and you don't have to use their service to use the program. It's super simple and fast (has built-in resize/red-eye/etc functions as well.

KVM switch and cordless mouse/keyboard

Did you ever figure out the answer to this? I just bought the same Linksys 4 port kvm switch and my M$ optical mouse (with wheel) doesn't work right either. I don't think the problem is with it being cordless (I'm using the Logitech cordless keyboard w/o trouble) but rather it having a wheel...

Linksys KVM switches

I just got the Linksys 4-port "Compact" KVM switch and my M$ Optical mouse (with wheel) doesn't work right - it works, but the mouse jumps around the screen and freezes at random, rendering it pretty much useless. I haven't determined if this is a wheel problem or optical problem...

What's the best way of getting rid of this damn Funlove virus? Update! I am cootie free again!

I got rid of it pretty easily in Win98 with Innoculate IT (or something like that), but you can all but kiss Win2k goodbye. FunLove modifies permissions in Win2k to allow ALL users full access to all resources. Check out Gustavus' link though; I remember seeing a section on how to remove it...
