Laptop or dual monitors? Edit: or a mac?

When another $750 off $1500 deal for Dell comes around take advantage of it and get yourself a $800 laptop. Then when they bring the 2005fpw back to under $400, get two of those for your dual monitor setup.

HP has turion laptop's, but they only have an ATI radeon 200m express. Not sure how that compares to the x700, but I'm assuming it's like comparing apples to oranges.

    Needed: Laptop; Strong Performer, Reliable

Hogwash. You can add third party RAM and your computer will still be supported and covered under warranty by Dell, but they just won't cover or support the added RAM should it fail. Also, if you have computer problems they may ask you to take out the third party RAM and replace it with the...

Laptops FAQ - Look here before posting

Q - Can I upgrade the Memory on my Dell laptop without voiding my warranty? A - Yes, you may, but it's important to know that the memory upgrade will not be supported by or carry a warranty through dell unless purchased directly through them. I recommend visiting Crucial.com to find a...

    Needed: Laptop; Strong Performer, Reliable

Go with Dell, but stick with the default amount of RAM (256mb or whater) and upgrade yourself. You can get cheap RAM from Newegg. I assume you're looking at the mid range XPS for $2660, but have you looked at the 9300 at all? It would save you some money and I think it would still make a worthy...

notebooks: best design/most ergonomic/most durable models?

Are you looking to get a laptop? If so, what specs are you looking for? My Dell Inspiron 2200 seems very sturdy and doesn't flex when I pick it up the corner, but my Gateway w/ 15.4" screen seemed to.

Not so sure about Toshiba, but Dell, ABS Mayhem, Acer Ferrari, etc. might make more of a gamer's laptop than Toshiba, but why even get a laptop if you're into gaming? Do you know what kind of a Desktop you could buy/build for $2K?

    Need some quick recommendations

If there's no hurry I'd get a Dell, but since you need it by tomorrow I'd just go checkout Bestbuy, Compusa, Circuitcity, and Fry's if you have them. I think they'd give you the biggest selection. If you take a look at circuitcity.com you can read some user reviews. I'd probably take a hard...

    Gateway 6020GZ laptop

It retails for $849.99. It's on sale for $699.99 right now. I bought one on sale that I'm trying to sell, but I would never let it go for $450 especially since it's only 1 month old. I'd rather keep it if I can't get what I want for it.

Has your sister tried adding more RAM? I just bought a refurbed Dell Inspiron 2200 for $386 and it seemed to crawl, so I thought I'd just reformat and get all that preloaded crap off, but I decided to add another 512mb of RAM and it increased speed 50-75%. You could get a Dell 600m. That's the only one I can think of that still has a serial port. You could configure one now for around $1K or less depending on what you'll need or you can wait for a $750 off $1499 deal. Just check www.dell.com/save750 .
