    Win7x64 hp boot BSOD

ViRGE you are a life saver. Thanks to rvuerinckx who found the cure, it worked just fine. I was minutes away from format and reclone after three days of hell.

    Win7x64 hp boot BSOD

Thanks for replying. I tried repair mode at least 6 times. Wasn't sure it was doing anything useful. Perhaps I can try a few more times if it is correcting faulty memory locations, I guess it might work if I am persistent. Only snag would be if it isn't actually correcting anything when it...

    Win7x64 hp boot BSOD

Any insights welcome. EDIT fix found see below. I have a 100% boot BSOD since yesterday EDIT after windows 7 update. red herring when an awkward Alt F4 moment quitting a game (I had to talk to my Mom on the phone and felt the sound effects would seem discourteous) caused aero to stop...

    which SSD with ICH9R X38 ?

Need help, want a single SSD to instal Win7 64 and currently run XP32 on a raid 0 of two Hitachi T7K sata spindles via ICH9R. Must keep XP32 running, has many games on it and want to keep raid 0 intact as that is good for XP without TRIM. Hoping for a dual boot system. Googling found...

list games where crossfire / SLI do not scale

Does Crossfire include 3870x2 ? Because there are a load of recent 4870 reviews out which showed the 3870x2 not scaling very well in games like... Tomb Raider Anniversary, Bioshock v1.1, Crysis v1.21, Lightsmark v1.3 http://www.legitreviews.com/article/734/1/ more reviews listed here...

Well, I've solved my overheating problem.

With most thermal compunds you need a petroleum based alkane like barbecue or lighter fluid, alcohol is not effective as it is too polar (due to the oxygen atom) to dissolve the silicon oil. Alkanes also good for sticky label residues.

    4870X2 vs GTX280 Poll

I am glad to see all the confidence in the 4870x2, maybe it will get some of the HS/F companies to start taking the ATIx2 seriously, ditto game devs will have to support them too and who knows maybe even some patches for games that currently cant use them, that would be nice... if AMD/ATI did...

    4870X2 vs GTX280 Poll

Exactly and noone is making air cooling for the ATIx2 either, shows the HSF industry dont take them seriously. I am using a 3870x2 and its OK but noisy every 5 secs and when I look at review benches for several games I realise its not such a bargain. I even slung an 80mm under the intake to...

    ATi 4870 X2 (R700) previews thread

The points have been made, but I just want to focus on the choices and add my voice about the 4870x2 Achilles heel(s) which need AMD/ATIs attention. As a 3870x2 user I can vouch that there is no 3rd party air cooling solution for these yet and doesn't look like anyone is interested either, no...

Moral dilemma over CPU QX9650 price

I let speedstep do its job having applied the MS tweak KB896256. I dont know what stage they cherry pick IDontCare, but they presumably must at least sort the packaged product into speed bins.

Moral dilemma over CPU QX9650 price

8x what was I thinking? (Q9350 perhaps) which makes it a 3.6 ceiling with DDR1800 in fact that is pretty good value all things considered. If you want to save a bit, you can get Q9450 and top DDR3 and mobo so you can clock the FSB. But the impression I get is that a QX9650 is more than an...

Moral dilemma over CPU QX9650 price

So there is no way to raise the multiplier using the same software then? So presumably its ceiling is hardware locked? Or is that what they WANT you to think ! j/k If so that means a Q9450 would be stuck at FSB X7, which even with 450 FSB (DDR3-1800) would only get you to 3.15 GHz. Since I...

Moral dilemma over CPU QX9650 price

Well, having spent a large amount of money on a QX9650 "because I could" for once and also to give me overclocking freedom and a platform that will stand for a good long time, I also got a Maximus Extreme and some OCZ DDR3 1800 to permit overclocking. However FYI there is a problem with...

Moral dilemma over CPU QX9650 price

Bear in mind that is a highly politicised "story" though Idontcare, it is an attack on Labour's methods of handling the NHS primarily, using burocratic targets that encourage perverse behaviour is not seen as the fault of the NHS but the government and is being used by the Tories and Liberal...

better CPU to last me 2 to 3 years

I get the feeling Nehalem is going to change the game in about a years time since it is moving away from FSB and will boost memory bandwidth quite a bit, on paper. Question is do you want in on the ground floor with Nehalem or do you want to ride out the next 3 years in comfort without upgrades...

I would also like to thank everyone who voted. FYI In case anyone else in interested I decided to live down the anti-materialist reputation I acquired in this thread and ordered a QX9650 and even some OCZ DDR3 1800 etc so :P. But the discussion was worthwhile as it helped me personally...

Moral dilemma over CPU QX9650 price

I really do want to hear other peoples views on the issue so thanks for taking the time to express your point of view on it. I am gathering from your post that the unlocked multiplier makes this chip worth the extra over a Q9450 in your view. It would be great to hear from QX9650 owners for...

Moral dilemma over CPU QX9650 price

Very drole Idontcare, very drole, if only it wasnt so true! That is not to mention the hazards you face in a British hospital from various lethal micororganisms which apparently find it a very benign environment indeed. You might almost think the NHS were trying to reduce their patient load in a...

Moral dilemma over CPU QX9650 price

While I appreciate the reality of that appraisal as things stand zsdersw, in theory shouldn't there be money in keeping people healthy for the insurance companies? If they reduce payouts then providing the cost is less than the savings then they are making money. In that sense its all to the...

Not a bad idea doc! I might just do that, its got to be easier than making my mind up. lol Thats an interesting point Tux, people spend an awful lot on that extra 10% wherever you look. I get the feeling a lot of it is not about the performance but about the feeling you get when you know you...

Moral dilemma over CPU QX9650 price

I can see your point zsdersw, I can see in the posty part of the OP the "no" rhetoric had a higher word count for sure. I thought that side of the argument needed to be more explicit, as the "pro" side seems pretty obvious to me. But I can see how it might look biased. m1a, thanks for your...

It might matter to me, shouldnt worry you though. By posting here I am trying to talk about something I want to talk about, its not just a game. Its not good if I misuse language and express myself badly is it? Then people cant understand me. I am not sure you have the same sense of...

Moral dilemma over CPU QX9650 price

Thanks for your contribution zsdersw but I think firstly your argument in favor of not discussing it assumes other people think like you do. Moral dilemma over CPU QX9650 price

Just thinking out loud, about the QX9650 CPU which is priced about £650 in the UK, that is about US $1260. Meanwhile the Q9450 due in 4 weeks weighs in about £220 or $430. Its no good me coming here and asking you if I should get the 9650, that has to be a personal decision depending on how...

Mobo OC goals for new system based on Penryn Q9450

I dont think the Q9450 is unlocked, so you are not able to play with multipliers, I read that somewhere and maybe someone else can correct me if wrong. So you have to do FSB clocking with that. So you probably need a flexible memory divider, and the Rampage will have the best BIOS for that kind...

    Can i use X38 mobo with an E8400 or Q9450 ?

because, dude, not all p35 are good for 45nm, what do you think the month and a half delay in release was about? the 4 layer PCB mobos created EM interference that stopped them working to spec Intel tried to fix it and they should all work to spec but I bet that the 4 layer mobos will not...

    Can i use X38 mobo with an E8400 or Q9450 ?

IMHO DFI boards are for people who pay for them. Also you never can tell with compatibility quite what will happen and its always wise to double check with people who have the hardware. But its a bit early to say for that particular combo since C2D 45nm are only just out. Original poster...

    OMG Intel 45nm........

well well, I would guess that since nVidia played so careless over cooperating about SLI that Intel decided not to bother about nVidia compatibility. I shouldnt think they went out of their way, they are not like that but if its true then nVidia got what they deserved for being so shortsighted...

Anybody else buying AMD out of pity?

I am sorry but IMHO the X2 are over priced, in the UK anyway, and that is AM2. The 939 X2 upgrades, what few there are around are either more overpriced or silly money and they are pushing the punter to do exactly what the OP did and upgrade the mobo and CPU at which point the only rational...

Antec = great customer service for cases

Antec also dropped the ball on my PSU warranty (allegedly three years) in the UK, asking me to send it to Netherlands, no mention of covering postage which was half the cost of the PSU. Not a happy bunny, short story, they sell in the UK and offer warranty but dont have a service arrangement...
