Will Gainward be a US player again?

Bought one Gainward card ever, a ti4200 that went to artifacting after a few months, about 30 days after CompUSA started to shutter their doors. Might be an exception but Gainward will never get my money again.

barcode readers + php/mysql

There is a barcode font that you can download for Excel and use to actually have barcoded values print on paper. Depending on how good of a scanner you pick up, you may just have to increase the font size for your scanner to read the barcode. I do a ton of barcode work using BarTender software...

How far from monitor for 1920x1200?

I spent the better part of yesterday looking at 24's up close and it seemed like a close call, which is why I was asking here. I'd prefer to just take my PC in, hook it up to each monitor and play for an hour or so. The salesmen want to stop me from rolling in with my cooler and chair though...

How far from monitor for 1920x1200?

For those of you who are gaming at 1920x1200, how far are you from your monitor? Besides my setup below, I've brought my work monitor home this weekend (Samsung 22" 2220wm) to play some games on. I've really got no issues with either monitor (maybe I don't know what I'm missing) but...

I typically can't stand shelling out $50 for a brand new release, but I'd probably give twice that to have the new Wolfenstein game get released tomorrow......dynamite planted!

Recommend Games for my Non-Gaming Laptop

I second the Luxor recommendation....or Zuma for that matter, about the same game. Got every iteration of both for my wife to play so she'd leave me and the kids alone to play our games. In the end, the whole family got addicted to them though.

ASRock Dual 939 Sata won't post

After two years of faithful service, pc locked up last night and would not respond to keyboard or mouse. After a hard shut down, today it won't even post. I've checked all the connections, swapped around power connections to the HDD, put in a back up HDD, etc and can't get the friendly post...

Can I still buy a new cpu for my A7N8X Deluxe mobo?

Weird how outdated components hold their price or get more expensive even. They know they've got you by the short and hairies if you need this stuff. I sent you a PM about a cpu I have that may work for you.

help with first build, me = noob

Can't bear to think of using that nice vid card on only a 17" screen. Jump on this right now and it's $5 cheaper, 19", free shipping, still 8ms. 1 day sale, though.

L90D+ Owners

You do have to go through the menu options on the monitor to get to the VGA/DVI selection but that was about the only thing I had to do different from a normal crt hookup. Nothing to it.

l90d+ base removal?

Same problem here. I had to lay mine in the original box, open faced, to take it to a LAN party in Dallas a couple weeks ago. Thought about breaking out the hammerdrill to get the base off and stopped at the last moment. Still love the monitor and I don't take it out but twice a year.....oh well.

ASUS A7N8X won't post

My A7N8X did that last week but pulling the CMOS battery, moving jumper back and forth, reseating battery did the trick for me. If it hadn't, my next guess was going to be psu but that's just because I'm running a simple psu that came with the case. Do you have another psu you can try before...

Best 17" LCD?

Looks like you have to buy a router, though, to get that MIR. That's still pretty nice for 17" gaming. Good luck finding a 12ms or faster lcd with an 8 bit panel (16.8 million colors), you have to choose one or the other right now. If you're stuck on 17", I'd go with that ViewSonic, if you...

Looking for an LCD under $500

You'd be best off having her look at some locally and find out if you need 17", 19" or even larger. The native resolutions of LCD's can make the text kind of small on a smaller screen. You can always change it but then it gets less sharp. I wouldn't pick a monitor for a woman anymore than...

That's what I'm going to do if I have one more problem with mine. Before that, I'd still check the seating of the HSF on the cpu, ram seating and all the mounts for the motherboard. Maybe they kicked one loose or actually cracked the board around one of the mounting holes - won't help you...

Poor ligting in games? Very dark.

There you go. I usually have to turn up the brightness/gamma on all of my games' settings as well, independent of your display properties.

How do I set up a SATA drive as my main drive?

For mine, all I had to do was enable sata as the second boot device in bios (floppy is first). The only tricky thing for me, was that "sata" wasn't an option, had to select "scsi" as the boot device for it to be found. No problems after that. Just make sure to NOT have your old IDE drive...

New Monitor, Custom Refresh Rates, and My Concerns.

Not sure if you could damage your monitor by cranking the refresh beyond "supported" modes but I'd leave it at 85hz or whatever is close in your supported resolutions. Unless your vid card can crank out more than 85 fps, pushing your monitor up to 100hz refresh won't give you any better...

Have you done all the normal housekeeping? Defrag, check for spyware, update vid drivers? Are other games running sluggish too?

Had trouble with my A7N8X last night. Got stuck on the ASUS screen, no beeps, no post. Fortunately resetting the CMOS did it for me. I took the battery out as well as moving the jumper, not sure if that made the difference or not. Is the CPU fan spinning when you power it up? HSF/ram all...

Your Opinions Wanted

I was about to jump on that deal but went with the Hyundai L90D+ (19", 8ms and DVI). I knew I wouldn't be able to push too many new monitors past my wife so I got what I really wanted. If I had to get a cheaper one, the 710N was the one I was going to get. I upgraded from a 17" crt as well...

When an LCD says it is DVI

D-sub is the analog input. If the monitor is DVI, you'll have a digital connector as well as an analog (at least I've never seen one that's got digital and not analog, they may be out there). If the monitor only says D-sub, it's not DVI.

Need help

With 256mb on your card, I would hope you don't need to worry about AGP aperature. It's sort of "overflow" memory space where your vid card would use system ram if necessary. The only problem I ever had related to this was solved by actually lowering my AGP aperature. If you're not having...

You wouldn't think so but it's a lot easier to try than all you've gone through so far. If it hadn't fixed my problem, I was going to guess PSU next, but I got lucky and didn't have to go that far.

new pc not getting video

I had a problem with my PC last night, somewhat similar. I got video but no beeps, no post, just stuck on the ASUS mobo screen. Reset the CMOS, all's well. Sounds like you're past that but wanted to throw it out there just in case.

Monarch's fault or Fedex?

Well said, man. You're bound to have problems with ANY shipping company if you use them enough. I have both great service and bad problems with UPS and FEDEX. Not much you can do about it except go to BestBuy or CompUSSR and spend the next day filling out MIRs.

Confuse about AGP Slot

Echo, this is the app I use to check up on all my specs (I always forget them). It's a small download - try it and it will give you all you need to know about your system. I don't think it gives you specs on your power supply though. You'll have to open your case and read the plate/sticker...

Confuse about AGP Slot

As long as you get an AGP card (not pci express), it will work in your slot, AGP is AGP, no different flavors to it. Be careful about spending that much $ on an AGP card since we're seeing the end of the AGP life cycle. As MDE asked, post your specs and you'll get some more definitive advice...
