Got it, thanks a lot for the info. One last thing b4 i'm done though... What's the point of a site selling Processors to list something like the Core , just to list all possible specs? I don't suppose a majority of the people who'd search a site like this know the intricate details of...

mmm, pretty confusing, few more things though. When i look at a CPU, let's say it's a PGA packaged CPU, the metalic looking part attached to the board is the shell huh...and then the actual CPU is the mess of wires inside there And...saying "Processor" refers to the whole die. The smaller...

Well, i guess i'm referring to what it means when info for a CPU that is to be sold is displayed, which is #2 on your list. Basically asking what the "type" is referring to in #2 there... (1) Like when ppl say, that's a Northwood Core, or a Prescott Core...what's the difference? (2)...

Why is 16-bit w/ 16-bit proc better than 32-bit?

Why is it that a 16-bit proc works better with 16-bit programs than a 32-bit processor does? Even though the 32-bit processor would seem to me to be faster and able to handle just as much commands as a 16-bit proc. In reference to the Pentium Pro and Pentium. Why did the Pentium Pro run DOS...

Issue w/ Onboard sound...

Well I've gotten an older version of MSI live update, due to the fact that the MSI site is ****** and most sites link only to it. But of course, when the download attempts to connect to the file site for individual drivers, it fails, ******' up the download.

Issue w/ Onboard sound...

Trying to get the onboard sound on my MSI Motherboard to work properly w/o the disk that came w/ the board...can't seem to get the right drivers, any ideas on what would be the best course of action? Speakers - Logitech Z640s Motherboard - MSI KM400-8235

Speed of Quartz Oscillators

I was curious as to what was it that determines the speed of a Quartz Oscillator...? Since they seem to provide the "beat" that controls the CLK wire, in turn controlling the speed of the entire comp so what determines this speed?

ye i got it, there's a multiplier on CPUs, but the limit is based on heat...makes me think that the ceiling on CPU speed gets fixed by fixing other setttings to make them faster and more efficient

mmm i see, so even if some kind of internal multiplier existed...the heat would be way too high for the CPU to not be engulfed in flames...i got it... I still wonder if it would be possible to have an internal multiplier of the clock speed on a CPU tho or are ya saying that that already...

ye i got that, i'm just asking like...theoretically, why can't there be a multiplier on the CPU + multipliers on the Mobo busses, increasing the multipliers on mobo busses, so that "theoretically" there's no roof on CPU speed if you just put multipliers everywhere.... *same disclaimer applies...

haha, i'll throw it up in there i guess, tho i worry about not understanding half the sh!t they say...still don't get why it is that speeds wouldn't be faster with CPUs if you can have multipliers with em...but like i said, i understand not as much as i'd like of this, just looking for an answer...

mmm, dumb question here, don't know much about how multipliers work, but i suppose you can't put a multiplier on a the clock speed, which is why it sets the speed for everything else?

hmm, i figured...people speak of 5-10MHz quartz...so you need a multiplier to reach enough to be able to pulse the CLK wire and be efficient and able to "keep up" with the Clock Speed...?

2 questions about CPUs...

1) If i am not mistaken, high-order bits are used to begin commands, tho the low-order bits are still used in these commands... But the thing i dont understand is this....i am told that low-order bits are used to store data, can anyone explain exactly how this works or if i am mistaken, try...

question about the external data bus...

the content of the site, ie what it is about isnt important. The whole idea is for this to be a learning experience and the site is just a back drop to learn different languages, starting with HTML. The real question is how do i get HTML scripted in a prog like notepad onto the site itself?

1 keyboard w/ multiple monitors...?
