How easy is it to switch to Linux from Windows

Let's say I'm starting with a new hard drive and I want to set it up with XP and Ubuntu in dual boot. How much space should I devote to the Ubuntu partition? 1GB, 5GB, 20GB? I'm not looking to make it my primary OS but I would like to play around with it.

Looking for credit card size camera, something like the Casio Exilim EX-S100

You might want to add the Minolta X50 to your list. I have the older Xt model and I take it just about everywhere I go. Because of it's size I can take snapshots on the go and just carry it around in my pocket.

What kind of CAD work are you doing that you need all this (theoretical) perfection? I am an engineer and use CAD to transfer designs from my head to the screen. CRTs are actually behind LCDs because they don't have screen real estate to display large images and their geometry is insconsitant...

$200 is a lot more than I wanted to spend on a card. The 9600 is more of what I'm after. It's always good to know that a 4 year old machine will still keep on doing what I want it to do.

Where are these huge differences in price coming from? A quick check on hard drive prices tells me that SATA is within about 5-10% ($10-$20 on 300GB) of IDE drives. This is comparing 8MB buffer drives. I can see it if you're saving 50 bucks or more but the smaller differential just doesn't seem...
