Would AMD be better off if they had not developed Bulldozer?

I think I need to clarify, for clockspeed gains it scales better, Sandy bridge has a kind of dip when you reach what are abnormally high speeds, Bulldozer does not seem to suffer in this respect, its has a near liniar scaling with clocks, which would indicate the architecture has lots of room of...

No, I don't think it would have been better for them not to develop Bulldozer, reasons why, Taking into account, leaky 32nm process, not enough cach, does very well in multithreaded software already, scales way better than Sandy bridge, little software compiled for it yet...

For those getting a new card to play Skyrim, some relevant info.

I have a HD3870 playing it at between high and ultra settings on 1600x1200 with 2xAA and 8xAF. on a Phenom I. Its basically the same as Oblivion.

Bulldozer, Massively unoptimized

One, the performance is simply not embarrassing when the chip performs well, Two, AMD are working on compilers for the chip, and they have been for some time now. But its not like machine language is the simplest thing to interact with and say that its " there, thats your problem right there...

Obviously I was a little disappointed at the bulldozer architecture debut. But there were cases where the benchmarks really did not make sense, in one instance it scales, another it doesn't. Its great, its not and all that mixed stuff. Like a rollerskating CPU. And it runs hot as well as...

Rumour: Bulldozer 50% Faster than Core i7 and Phenom II.

But there is more. I just read that the FX-8130 has a TDP of 125, clocks at 3.8 ghz, Turbo cores to 4.2 ghz.... The 8 core FX-8110 CPU has 3.6 clocks and TDP of 95.... http://news.mydrivers.com/1/194/194271.htm Could be fake, or simply wrong.. But interesting if true.

Rumour: Bulldozer 50% Faster than Core i7 and Phenom II.

What I see is a benchmark that is limited to about 4 threads, and a 4 module/ 8 core Bulldozer performing the same as the i7 2600k SB model. Which is good I suppose. The beauty of Bulldozer is the flexibility to up the MHZ in apps that can not scale to 8 cores, and really put the hammer down...

Athlon XP still legit?

Best I could do at Newegg was this. case + PSU $30 Geforce 7600 GS $30 Memory2gig/Mptherboard./CPU combo (semptron x2 2GHZ) $93 CPU cooler and some thermal grease. $10 HDD $39 thats $200 for a decent old gaming rig. You will probably need at least one optical drive to install stuff on...

32nm Phenom/Athlon x4 when????

I hope AMD will do a simple die shrink of AM3 chips with DDR2 controller as well as the Liano stuff. I am asking as I recently had to replace a motherboard and did not want to buy into DDR3, I alsready had some nice DDR2. So, do you guys with a AM2+ compatible chip will come in 32nm.

32nm Phenom/Athlon x4 when????

I know AMD just talked about the new Liano part, but what interests me is if they are going to release a pure Phenom II or Athlon II on 32nm. As I am on a AM2+ motherboard, I am interested as I think the Liano parts only have a DDR3 controller. your thoughts?

Intel's restrictions on Atom - why?

What I saw yestarday. I was very impressed. An Acer laptop. with a Neo x2 1.6 processor. full sized keyboard (including number pad) dvd drive, HD3200, 6 cell battery, 15.6 inch 16:9 display. and what is the equivalent of 450 Euros. this is in bulgaria. and I am not able to find the laptop...

Camera doesn't like 4GB SD card?

Even if it did support the 4gb it has to be formatted outside tha camera (in a computer) to get the most from the card.

Need some AGP help.

what 6800 card are you thinking of. check the specks for it. if it has 16pipes or 12 or 8. I would personaly go with the X800XT because i value the image quality ATI dishes out when you do a side by side comparison. But as its a gift for your little bro, ask him which compaty ne likes better...

Getting AVI playback to TV (ATI X700, S-Video)
