Guild Wars Beta Weekend

Anybody have a Beta Test weekend key they aren't going to use? I want to try out the game before I purchase it... (Its worth a shot right?? :) )

DIY versus retail who is it really for

I like to build my own, but I'll tell my friends/relatives to buy from Dell....instead of me building them one, because then if something breaks its Dell's problem not mine =). I like to build my own because I know whats in it, and I always put quality parts in my computers, its pot luck with...

DIY versus retail who is it really for

DIY'ers put their own comp together, and put what they want on it. Dell/compaqs...they put the computer together, and they usually put crap on computer that users usually uninstall anyway.

Do you guys leave your comps plugged in when you disassemble them?

Everybody has to get juiced once in their life...luckly you weren't on a metal ladder tearing down gutters and fell 8 feet to the ground when it happened...ouch...

MY BRAND NEW COMPUTER!!!

simple check, make sure the monitor works...unplug the monitor and there should be a test pattern that shows up on the screen, possibly saying "check signal cable"...If not just mess around with the settings and you should see a menu. Monitor's do go bad, its rare but it happens =).

if i pair up pc2700 and pc3200, that shouldn't cause a problem right? Wouldn't the pc3200 just run slower w/o any issues?

Computer restarting during gaming

If its not a heat issue, I've had problems with restarts and updating the drivers fixed the problem...vid drivers, sound card drivers...

anyone heard of magnum psu (#1 2005 CES superior silence)

Won't the heatsink sticking out the back on the left get in the way when mounting it? By get in the way I mean you'll never get it to sit in the case right without cutting the hole in the back of the case bigger??

Strange Monitor Activity

My monitor acts up in a weird way every so often. If I wake it up off of standby mode, the screen shows up squeezed in on the left and right. I usually have it setup so that the screen takes up the whole monitor, but when this happens, there is about a half inch gap on each side. If I turn it...

start over again, reformat the drive. I had this same problem installing XP, I just reformatted again, and it worked. this might sound weird but its worth a shot, make sure there aren't any marks or scratches on the disk, it might be messing up a file when it copies over....also, are you...

really considering this psu, need comments

The second one has more wattage, thats why its more money. I've never used this brand, so I can't say anything good/bad, I use Antec PSU's in my comps. All I know is that its good practice NOT to cheap out on the PSU, its one of the most important pieces on your comp, and a cheap one can...

Dual Channel and two different sticks of ram?

I could be wrong here but I thought that if you want Dual Channel, the RAM have to be matched? Like this: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-141-423&depa=0 Im not saying you can't add RAM to your machine, but I think that you'd might have some issues running dual...

first build horrors

You can buy a splitter that turns one fan socket into 2 for really cheap. The best thing to do when putting a comp together is to take your time, and have fun. I always mount the proc/heatsink first outside of the case, cause that is just way easier. thats the hardest part, everything else...

Big Problem w/ Computer Resetting

ok take a breath =) don't kick your comp.... i've had problems like this before with games, it would just restart at random times, update the drivers for your video card, sound card....usually its just a driver issue..go online for the most up to date ones.

Scene...Installing Heatsink.... "This is too much pressure...way too much...i can't believe how hard it is to snap this stupid clip in..." CRACK goes my processor what really happened though...you know that arm next to the socket that you have to lift in order to seat the processor pins...

MONITOR WHISTLING

great monitor horror stories =). I've had them die on me but never make sounds...I used to have one that would all of sudden get a yellow tint over everything, a swift hit to the side fixed that though... do as i say not as i do...don't hit your monitor, what did it ever do to you? =)

yeah pulling it out should be fine, i would make sure that its not being used while doing it though, I have a USB drive that has an LED light on it, and I make sure that the light isn't blinking before I pull it out. Just be careful its not being used at all, like a document is left open or...

PSU Problems

Why are Nforce4 chipset fans noisy?

Well, I've had my board for 1 1/2 years, and I am not good at cleaning my case out at all. I recently took the side off and there was a colony of dust bunnies in there =). Me not cleaning out the case periodicly + no carpet in the room = lots o' dust. The noise does go away after a little bit...
