little upgrade insight?

If you can get a cheap socket 939 dual core opteron or x2 2nd hand I reckon that setup will easily last you another year before you need to consider changing your platform. You have a very fast graphics card and that is really the major limitation with games today.

G80 series or price reduced 7950GTX's..

sounds like a driver issue, I can run HL2 at 1280x1024 with everything turned up on this 3200, x800xt and 1gb ram rig. Not sure what the frame rate is but it's certainly very smooth. That's a point, what res are you running this stuff at?

Do you use onboard LAN or a seperate NIC

Another vote for onboard, don't bother with the nvidia controller to be honest though. Use the marvell controller on this a8n-sli premium and used the 3com one on my old a7n8x deluxe. Was enticed by the shiney brand names.

You said drives, so this is more than one optical drive? Try checking the jumpers are correct for the master and slave on the ide cable, you know master at end, slave in the middle. If they are already set correctly might want to try each optical drive individually as master on the ide cable...

Newbie trying to build a new system... HELP!

I wouldn't go with raid 0, if one drive dies all your data dies with it. Perhaps consider a 74gb raptor for a speedy os and games drive and then the 250gb for storage if you want two drives. The 7900gt is 24 pipes whilst the 7800gt is 20 pipes so a 7900gt performs about the same as a 24...

Memory clock on XFX 7600GT??

It's double pumped, sends signals on the beginning and trailing edge of the clock. So while it's physically running at 800MHz, it's equivalent to 1600MHz in operation. This is the principle behind all DDR memory. 400MHz PC3200 memory for instance actually runs at 200MHz

Problem upgrading DDR Memory in an older motherboard...

The board specs indicate its 4x agp. Try reducing the agp speed settings and turn off fast writes etc. to see if that solves it. Possibly look at the psu to see if its under powered during 3d.

I think the tualatin core P3s used fcpga2 sockets and i'm guessing that the 866mhz P3 you have is at most a fcpga socket. By the way I remember that ages ago there was a pci version of the geforce4 ti4600 released. I guess those will be very rare if you can find one second hand though.

New system, old hard drive - computer wont see the HD as a master and incorrect size!

Have you got the drive connected to the end connector on the ide cable and got the right way round? There should be 2 connectors on the drive end of the cable and for master it should be the very last connector. Also tried swapping the cable out for another?

most powerful + quite PSU

Another vote for the seasonics. I absolutely hate noise so when I bought my s12-500 i hooked it up to a psu tester to see how noisey it really was. I thought it was faulty but then looked down to see that the fan was spinning, I just couldn't hear it.

Might as well go with the asrock board. They seem to have very good performance and of course there is the fact that it will accept a pci-e card in future. To be honest even with a 200mhz fsb you're distinctly cpu limited using the barton with a graphics card of that power. Having said that...

Is it worth extra $50 for AMD64 3200+ over 3000+?

The main advantage the 3200 has in overclocking is its larger multiplier. For a given overclock, e.g. to 2.4ghz you have to ramp up the memory speed less if you want to keep 1T timings and hence can use cheaper ram or take it further with 1T timings or have the latency of the ram tighter.

PCchips M810LR-XP v7.1A---Specs. Questions

Now check the motherboard to see if it needs any extra power connectors. The dfi ones need an extra molex etc. Best if you list your components.

The pci-e 6 pin connector is a power connector to provide enough power to that card so that it will be able to work. Without it you wont see anything on the screen. Look at the graphics card and see if it has a socket for the power. Some take a molex connector like for hard drives to power...

*Confused* 256MB Stick working on a BX chipset board?

High density will be single sided for a 256mb stick. Lower density chips force them to use both sides of the pcb. I had that problem when upgrading ram on an old machine and had to return it in the end.
