Yeah, I sould see everything fine on the 15.4 @ 1920x1200. But for reading articles and stuff for extended periods of time it kinda bugged me.

Forceware Drivers beyond 72.xx for XPS Gen2??

I used the modded drivers a bit. I switched back, they were a lil tweakish in SC: Chaos Theory and seemed to run slower.

midrange gaming lappy?

Equivalent would be around an X300 with 128MB. Just missed the dell coupon for 750 off of 1499. You could have got the Inspiron 6000 for $750 then. Even so, they still have the $600 orf 1499 coupons running right now. Lowest spec I got was $901 after coupon, that spec follows... 1.6...

Buying a new notebook - am I making the right choice?

Dell 600m Vs. 6000

He dosen't want to play games. The reason he should get the 6000 is becuase it is the better built machine and looks nicer. I don't believe you called a machine with integrated graphics strong and snappy and then turn right around to say the X300 sucks. The X300 is not a high end card, but...

Dell 600m Vs. 6000

Go with the 6000 unless you really really need to smaller machine. I'd get the 128MB version of the X300 since you won't be able to change this later (I think the $70 upgrade will help with resale in the future). On another note, I have to disagree with the D610 being a better built...

Very cool, although I was very pleased at how well the 6800U Go runs with 12 pipelines vs. the desktop flavor GT and Ultras with their 16 pipes. Sounds pretty cool from the article though, would like to see some benchies.

A Way to Preserve Aspect Ratio?

Are we talking aspect ratio or interpolation. If aspect ratio, just select a widescreen resolution. Correct ones for 16:10 are... 1080x720? (Unsure of this one, something around there though) 1280x800 1440x900 1600x1050 1920x1200 Some newer games (very few) like Doom3 don't have...

Yeah, Dell does not offer the XPS2 with a single 1GB stick. That is a decent price for sure beings you got the extra battery\backpack\audigy2 but; skimping on the warranty 100% is pretty gutsy. As deathwalker says, I would definitely put in 2 identical sticks of memory, me, I purchased the 1GB...

I own XPS2, my buddy has the 9300. I believe the weight with battery (but not power supply) is 7.5 (9300) and 8.6 (XPS2). I would guestimate the battery weight at roughly a pound.

I'm not sure how the 6800 handles 1920x1200 (I've seen it running WOW very smooth at the res but that's it), but the 6800 Ultra handles it amazing and that's at 4AA & 8AF. I figure for any newer games to run at that res I will just have to drop the AA and AF abit.

I wouldn't even bother with a reformat. What I would like to see personally, a video stress test score from (if you own it) counter strike source @ 1920x1200 with 4AA and 8AF. I have been itching to see what the 9300 pulls off for this. XPS2 was hitting 57.7 with dell drivers at those...

Nah, I'm pretty picky actually, I'm just saying the interpolation is very minimal on the WUXGA Truelife screens, it handles it really really well and just plain looks good, I own one and will vouch for it. On the other hand my desktop LCD is 1280x1024 native and I indeed notice the difference...

just got a I9300

Unless you want to rebuild completely. Remove all that crap software they insist on installing. Years ago I rebuilt computers right out of the box with no questions. Now it's not so bad. I removed all the extra crap on my last one, installed virus scan and never had to rebuild it.

Cleaning a Briteview LCD

I didn't see anyone say they did. But they do get dust on them, or perhaps a little spittle from sneezing or talking crap in online games. I am extremely picky about my screens and slap any hands that get near it, but; I have gotten stuff on it before and therefore, it needed to be cleaned.

Wow, thanks for the info. If the heat from a 7200rpm drive contributes enough heat to cause a problem, you are buying the wrong laptop. Let me put it clearer for you, My hard drive does not get hot and it is a Hitachi, you know.

I'm running the 7200 in my XPS2, I ran it in my 9100 and also my 8200, that drive is definitely not the hot spot on my laptop. The hot spot for me is the graphics card when kickin Splinter Cell Chaos Theory at 1920x1200. Skeet Skeet.

Advice on a backpack for my 17" Apple Powerbook / Dell 9300???

I have the jansport lapbag with the airlift shoulders. Very nice, is comfortable, and fits the XPS2 with no problem.

new 9300 on order

Good buy man, My buddy loaded the Extreme G 71.84 Nvidia drivers and turned on the auto-overclocking. His scores, although I have no specifics, increased drastically (up to 15fps). I believe he was using a benchmark from guru3d. You made the right choice IMO.

Very cool, the ones I had seen were over 5k but nowhere near 6k and I had heard people loading it on a ramdrive were gaining 1k on the 05 tests. If that was stock with auto overclocking enabled that is awesome man. Very nice indeed.
