Getting my 9200 Tuesday, advice needed on cleaning garbage off hard drive.

700m lcd bezel heating up

That's for easier replacement of the bezel. some of the bezels need to have a screwdriver put under bezel by the f4 key to pry it up when removing.

Compaq R3000Z Installation Discs are impressive

how is it different? you should have receieved 2 cd's, one with your OS, the other with the drivers. Dell's been doing that for years.

Does this look good?

I would seriously think about changing your warranty to the 3 year depot. at the very least then you're covered for parts for 3 years AND you can just request parts and do the work on your own. the service manual that the machine should come with will also detail how to tear the machine apart...

if she trys to escalate it to a manager she might be able to get them to send out a technician to replace the motherboard next business day onsite. it's what i would try to get done for the customer if I was on the american side. if your service contract is return to depot but if you can...

How hard is it to fix a power switch on a laptop

sorry about that, with Dells the power switch is part of the keyboard bezel, so I usually send out a replacement for the bezel alone when there's a power switch issue.

contact acer tech support. they should be able to tell you any status or diagnostic codes that might be showing up that you're not looking for.

are Dell 700m's easly upgradeable?

If you DO want a faster CPU later on, you can contact Dell service parts. they can go through selling you a faster cpu for the difference. I'm pretty sure that sales will just leave you hanging. Looking through a teardown I have of the 700m I'd have to say don't bother trying to take it...

DELL Inspiron 700m Fans not working

looking for cheap laptop with good tech support

I would recommend getting a dell but calling the canadian tech support. just beg them not to transfer until after troubleshooting has been done. however, i guess then you have to call the states after if any hardware needs replacing and that alone is a pain in the ass. actually if you buy one...

Gaming Laptop Recommendation

And so what about more RTS games that are turning to 3d graphics? Last time i checked Age of Empires 3 wasn't a first person shooter but it's going to need some serious 3d hardware to look as pretty as those screenshots. I'm sure my Dell 9300 is going to run it better then your gateway...

dell 6 cell (53whr) battery dies fast~

if you have quickset running and you're just doing web surfing you should be able to get around 5 - 6 hours out of that 9 cell battery.

Yeah, it's not going to happen. maybe if you could convince someone on the forum to post pictures of the 9300 motherboard connector and the 6000D connector, that would be your best bet to finding out if you could change the card. I unfortunately do not have pictures of what the motherboard...

with the integrated video (intel 900) people are finding battery life of around 6 hours. even with the x300 128 meg card some users are finding battery life over 4 hours.

To the best of what i know there is only going to be the three offerings of the 6000. integrated, 64 meg and 128 x300's. nothing else.

the 6000 consists of the following : 2 motherboard configurations, one for the integrated video, the other for the 64 or 128 x300 ati chip. Is also dual channel compatible. battery life with the x300 has been clocked at 5+ hours x300 3d graphics are about on par with a desktop...

there's no way you should be expecting 5+ hours out of your 80Whr battery when you've got the 6800 card. Maybe if you had the radeon x300, but only then.

if you're not going to be gaming the dell inspiron 6000 might not be bad, it's way cheaper then the 9300 and there's a coupon code for 800 off if you're american and you price it out higher then 1499 i believe.

True Life will get you a super reflective screen where the colors appear MUCH nicer, IMHO. however, that reflectiveness can be irritating to some. also the resolution is higher. but it all comes down to that reflectiveness. if you mostly watch movies or game in the dark, you will absolutely...

shouldn't be a problem to get ram later at all, in fact, it's way cheaper to do that when dealing with dell. :) as for the difference between the two departments, it's pretty much the product line. although the small business would probably have some different components available.

Dell Inspiron 700m or Inspiron 6000

Dell prefers to build it after you pay for it. plus it helps keep down on costly inventory. to me it makes more sense because i've seen inventory stockpile in places, but I also see how it can hurt if there's no sales going on inside stores like futureshop and such.
