SMART FAN II - Should I buy? UPDATED - diff. between BIOS temp readings tested.

My XP2500+ purchased unlocked...

333MHz Bartons are recognized by the BIOS and by default the FSB is set to 333. (166x2). If you want to OC you don't really care if the BIOS recognizes your CPU as 333 or 266, you still want to set it manually to a much higher setting. As it happens CPUs set by the factory to 333 are having...

XP2500 Overclocking results?

Barton 2500+ Abit NF7-S 2x256 GeIL PC3500 10x220 = 2200MHz I had to cut L12 Bridge on the CPU to overclock FSB.

My 2.0 does 220 and it looks like a limit. I did not do a vdd mod. However this speed was only achieved after cutting L12 bridge on Barton CPU. Before the cut 170MHz!!! was a maximum XP bootable speed (This has something to do with 333MHz bus of the CPU).

OCing my new system is not going well...

Today I cut the L12 Bridge (Actually I zapped it first with 9v and then cut it - just to make sure I don't have to do it a second time) Yesterday booting to XP with RAM over 170 was impossible. Today I'm running stable at 220x10 3DMark: 17828

My XP2500+ purchased unlocked...

My 2500 was also unlocked, but on Abit NF7-S I could not boot to XP with RAM higher the 170!!! (was running it at 166x13.5) It was pissing me off so I took the CPU out and cut L12 Bridge. This was just 30 minutes ago so I havn't finish testing yet. I want to bump RAM as high as I can with low...

9700 Pro - what drivers?

Today I put together a new system with a OC Systems 9700 Pro Level II. Since I've been on NVidia boat for years I don't know what are the newest drivers for ATI. (I'm not even trying to install the drivers tha came with the card, they are probably old anyway). Any pointers?

Abit NF7, Asus A7N8X, or EpoX 8RDA+ - which one do you have?

I've read about the bios corruption problem on Abit NF7-S so I purchased the board from excaliber.com together with bios recovery kit (an extra bios chip) for ~10 bucks. Now I don't care if it gets corrupted.

the worst popups ever!!!!

CPU unstable at 47C?

Athlons are designed to run stable in much higher temps then yours is running. Mine used to run at 67 and it was very stable (not overclocked - just a poor cooling) I think you should look somwhere else for a cause of your problem.

Gigabyte GA-7VTXE Overclocking and temps

Need advice with my case cooling project.

Thanks for input RagManX, Since I ordererd Swiftech 462 I checked couple of reviews and a Swiftech's site and it turns out that the fun should blow, not suck. So I guess I have to rethink my design. I know one thing for sure, the duct from 120mm fan will blow air directly over the heatsink fan.
