6950 Reference Cooling Question

FWIW, I've got a Powercolor 6950 2GB (which I believe is a reference design) with a slight overclock (880/1325), shaders unlocked, and power at +20% in CCC and it doesn't exceed 75 degrees while playing BF3 or Crysis 2 completely maxed out at 1680. Stock fan profiles and only 1 x 120mm case...

So I just bought a GTX 560Ti...

If you're comfortable with overclocking, get a 2GB 6950 and save your money. It will overclock to ~6970 speeds + more depending on your card and how much you're willing to push it. Otherwise, the 570 is a good card.

Spend the extra money. If you're serious about gaming at that resolution, get the best you can afford. I'm thinking you'll be disappointed with that 560ti for those games + that resolution.

The more FPS the better...at a consistent 30, BF3 feels choppy to me. I like to keep it hovering around the 50's-60's for the smoothest possible gameplay.

Yup, solo-ing is definitely possible in the BF3 choppers. If I can't find a gunner, I'll go up and take on jets with my heat-seekers on Caspian, for example. It's fun seeing the pilots' reactions when they realize they've been taken out by a measly attack helo. Seat-switching and gunning down...

BF3 smacks down COD

Exactly. Why even post, DeathReborn? May as well gtfo and go back to your dumb COD. BF3 is Battlefield through-and-through, rest assured. There's a few smaller maps this time around with some tighter infantry combat and less focus on vehicles, but I say again: this is definitely Battlefield.

I've been playing all day and haven't run in to any lag except on a couple servers from halfway around the world that I joined by accident. Game is epic and runs incredibly well. Seine Crossing just might be one of my new favourite Battlefield maps of all time.

I think the last one pays out 1 million credits and 100,000 XP IIRC. They're really fun...but can be challenging and are ultimately rewarding in turn. Definitely bring new life to a game which, if I'm honest, lacks events in the main career mode...i.e, I would have liked to see more A-spec races...

Ahh...in that case, grind to level 21 and do the B-Spec "Like the Wind" series...the prize car is the Toyota 7 Race Car which will easily slay that race. Assuming you don't already have the car to beat Like the Wind, you'll probably need to spend a little cashola--but far less than what it would...

I finally got a Formula GT from the UCD! It's such a blast to drive...my B-spec Bob absolutely loves it as well. The Nostalgia Race? That's in the Amateur category, no? If you've got a Countach LP400 in the garage, that'll easily win it...it's the prize car for the A-Spec professional...

Do you use the analog stick or the regular D-pad? I find the pad to be much, much more accurate and more sensitive to minute adjustments on the fly.

Yeah. The ghost car feature really helps a lot...same with the examples--they give a really good starting point. Worse comes to worse, there's tons of Youtube clips up that can give you ideas for driving lines and strategies. Additionally, take a look at your ABS and traction control...

This is happening to me on my Vista box as well...I've noticed it starts acting up after I've had the machine running for extended periods of time (8+ hours), but it's really kind of random. When it does start acting up, it occurs in all my programs that rely on keyboard input - Photoshop...

Hijack This log

Is your suspicion of an infection attributed to general slowness of the machine by any chance? I'd maybe start with disabling 80% of that 'bloat' from starting up at boot...then perhaps think about running CCleaner and a decent spyware scan.

IE no longer uses WMP for media...

Do you have VLC Player installed by any chance? The reason I ask is because I was having the same problem as you...all media links within IE8 gave me the "Page not found" blahblah error. After a little Googling, I found that apparently VLC causes some file handling confusion...to fix it...

I'm getting this as well...a nice 3 or 4 second delay from the time I click on the IE icon until the browser actually pops up...everything runs fine once the browser loads though. Strange thing too...it loaded instantly in the Beta and RC versions.
