Are you always nervous about a new build?

I won't lie. Yes. I am nervous. I don't mind investing the time to solve a problem, but I just hate finding out that I have to make that investment.

Well, the build is complete. Greatly enjoying it. No problems with the install at all. All parts worked fine when they arrived, so that's another plus for Newegg. It's nice to finally be able to enjoy my games in high quality without any BSOD or any other numerous errors I was getting...

    Current solution won't last

D-Link's website doesn't list a C revision of the DWL-510 card. Nevertheless, the NIC is revision B. Now, as far as the router, it is indeed the C revision, but D-Link's own support site doesn't list any drivers/documentation verifying it's use with Vista.

    Current solution won't last

Thanks, much appreciated. Now it's just a matter of finding the devices locally, lol If only I had the foresight to check compatibility of the one other device I planned on keeping I would have ordered it last night when I made my build order. Silly me.

    Current solution won't last

I'm in the process of building a new box, running Vista 64. Trouble is that I was planning on utilizing my current wireless card and router, but D-Link does not provide any updated drivers / firmware / information for the products in relation to Vista 64. So, with that said, I'm not...

Thanks for all the help guys. I pulled the trigger on an i7 920 build. Came to grips that I can deal with hitting the top of my budget, and came pretty close. 997.91 total before s/h, 1024.81 after s/h, and $40 in MIR to put me at 984.81. My rationalization process was that, if in the...

    Debating on building or buying.

Based off of what I have priced (i7 920, MSI X58 mobo, and 6gb of DDR3 memory), I'm spending 554.97 on those three elements alone. Any motherboard recommendations for the Q9400? I'm going to take a look at what newegg has to offer in regards to the 9400 and 8x00 line, once i know the cost...

So then, go back to the original WD HDD and the Corsair w/ case combo? I suppose if that's the worst of my problems in trying to pick stuff out I think I'm doing alright.

zerogear, no problem. I probably wasn't clear enough. But yeah, I'd like to use the new sata drive as my OS drive, and the older IDE drive as simple storage, backups, etc. I think I've found a way to bring a Caviar drive into my plan. My previous case/psu combo was overpriced and under...

Thanks, good eye. Seems I can get a 3x2gb set up from Crucial for the same price. As far as the HDD, what's the performance benefit to getting the black? Are there potential conflicts with 64bit system running the previously selected HDD? Sorry for the silly questions, but it's been a while.

lol Alright guys, I appreciate the help. I think I've made my mind up. I'm going to build the next box. Here's what I got, all purchased from Newegg. In an effort to be as forward looking as possible, I am diving into the i7 craze. CPU: i7 920 - 288.99 Mobo: MSI X58 Motherboard -...

Anyone have any thoughts / comments on the MSI X58 Pro motherboard for an i7? Any recommendations on an appropriate case? Currently looking at the following combination from newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?ItemList=Combo.174584

Yeah, sorry, I suppose I should have been a bit clearer. My current box is going on four years old. Through the years I've changed or added hard drives or video cards. I'd like to try to get as much "forward looking" components as possible, even if that means keeping certain things in...

Thanks for the input guys. I will be upgrading to vista though, premium, debating on if I need 64bit or not. Thoughts? Remember, the last time I built a box, XP Pro was the best windows OS out there. :)

A mid-sized tower is fine. Certainly not going back into the business of a full sized tower any time soon. As far as crossfire / sli, haven't really focused on it, but I don't necessarily want to close the door off to doing it in the future. Same goes with memory expansion, etc. Also...

Well, my current box is on it's last few lives. Time to upgrade I'm afraid. 1. What YOUR PC will be used for. --> Gaming, photo editing, and the usual non-intense tasks of internet browsing, video watching, music listening. 2. What YOUR budget is. --> I'm willing to go up to...

    Westinghouse L2210NW

If so, let's here them. . . Recently (about a month back) I noticed that I couldn't control the monitor's settings on the side. Not really sure what the deal is, but I'm tempted to call Westinghouse up and tell them they'll have a monitory shipped to one of their service centers to repair or...

Partitioning a HDD with data on it

Yes, it was a data drive. Stores all my music, videos, photos, etc. I ended up tossing the old HDD back into the system to get around the NTLDR fault. But now, when running the XP setup the Setup tells me that it can not access the disk. *banghead* I've got a feeling I'm going to...

Partitioning a HDD with data on it

Appreciate it. I just pulled out the 60gb drive that is dead. I'm going to just end up installing XP onto the 320 once I move the jumpers around and get it going. Once I have the desktop operating again I'll attack the partitions then after I make backups of my data.

Partitioning a HDD with data on it

Well, seems my prior issues have revisited me. In the end, my 50 or so gb HDD has taken a dump. It was my primary HDD, and housed the OS. As such, my computer will not boot. Before I rush into ripping it out (which will occur), and formating my 320gb backup I have a quick question. Is...

Multiple drives, after a reformat can't access one of them.

Got an unmountable_boot_volume this morning, made an attempt to troubleshoot it and finally broke down and reformatted. The previous drive set up was like this. Two drives, one 60gig and one 320gig. The 60gig was partitioned into two particians, C and D. C was 10 gig, and housed a...

I have to admit, it has been a while since I've been dealing with hardware. Purchased a new HDD yesterday, 320gb. WD EIDE. I have a 60gb in the box right now. I obviously want to toss the 320 in soon. . .but I don't know if I should just reformat both HDDs, and install XP on the...

    6800XT as an upgrade. . .

Thanks nonameo, I'll obviously purchase from someone here at AT's FS forum if I find one of the cards available for a better price. Reason I'm ditching the 9800 Pro is because I'm pretty certain it has ran it's course. Getting occasionaly lock ups (no BSOD) while playing flight simulator...

Got the green light from the wife tonight, I've decided on the X1650 Pro. Before I follow through though, is a 450W PSU sufficient for this card? And second, what program are you guys using to monitor temperatures on these newer cards? Are there already temp sensors on these cards, that...
