Exactly, there isn't anything special about the ports. In my humble experience, defective parts are a rarity. I seriously doubt that the port would work at all if it was defective, and it certainly wouldn't display 1920x1200, even if forced in the control panel. These symptoms point to a...

I don't think the info is wrong, or that the card is defective. I'm sure it has something to do with the driver support when there are two monitors attached.

Ok, robisbell, I'm pretty sure you're wrong there. I switched the Dell over to the other DVI port (had another LCD attached to the other) and it worked fine. Problem fixed, thanks to all.

See my first post. Robisbell, I'm pretty sure the 8800 can do 1920x1200, and unless you can show me some documentation that somehow refutes the spec sheet provided by EVGA, then I think we should try to think of something else.

I doubt that the 8800 isn't capable of this resolution, given that cards 2 generations ago could do it easily. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Well, I'm not sure that's the case. According to this spec sheet from EVGA: http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/320-P2-N811.pdf Says that 1920x1200 is supported, as well as much higher resolutions.

So, every time I restart, my 24" Dell resets to 1680x1050, without the option to go to 1920x1200 in the properties menu (this is xp). I have to go into the nvidia control panel and make a custom resolution every time. This is because it doesn't remember it, either. It has a custom resolution...

It's been happening intermittently since I built the PC, about a month and a half now. Would that error message point to a defective drive, though? It referred to a "controller error"... that makes me think mobo... does anyone have any experience with the 680i and SATA DVD drives?

SLI board/triple monitor question

I'm pretty sure that won't work because that card uses a different driver than your other card. Vista requires multi-video card setups to use the same driver.

Are you sure about this for Vista, though? Checking the ATI website, the 9xxx series is listed under Vista 32-bit drivers, and links to Catalyst 7.4. Confusing...

This happens when you get a combination of an X2, nForce3 mobo, ati card, and vista. If you don't have this problem, then you don't have this setup.

Just thought I'd update this topic... I just today tried to install the final upgrade to my agp machine: A Shiny New X1950pro AGP. On Vista. Vista No Likey. Apparently Nvidia doesn't think that Nforce3 is a chipset worth supporting anymore. See these articles for details: Here and Here...

Well, for one thing, the one I had before (Ultra X-Connect) wouldn't fit in my new case (Antec p180). Also, I thought it would be a good investment... since I run multiple HDDs with it and can continue to use it after I upgrade again. Satisfied?

Ok, reading the Vista Tweaks thread, I saw that if you run 2 video cards, they have to run the same driver. I have 3 LCDs running on 2 video cards, one a 6800 Ultra (AGP) and a FX5200 (PCI). I chose to install the newest drivers on the Ultra, and now the 5200 won't work with them. My question...
