    Need some good restaurants

If you're driving up to Saratoga, hit Sperry's, 43 Phila, Hattie's (best Cajun food outside of Louisiana that I've ever had), One Caroline, or Lanci's (amazing Italian food). The Weather Vane is alright, but won't compare to any of the above.

    Madrid Bombing Trial

FT article on it Anyone following this here? I'm watching it closely--it seems like it's still riddled with controversy. As you may or may not recall, Aznar was ahead in the polls when these bombs went off three or four days before the elections, and he wound up losing after a cell...

    Carlos Mencia vs Joe Rogan

I actually have a lot more respect for Rogan after watching that. While he's being a bully, he's also managing to expose how much of a lying worm Mencia is. If Mencia came out right away and said "yeah, so what, some of my material is borrowed or recycled", it'd be one thing, but he denies it...

    Fox business news channel coming.

For the record, they lead the other two cable news networks by leaps and bounds in the ratings and have for some time. In any case, competition is a good thing. Adding another business channel to the market will create a more competitive atmosphere and at the end of the day should lead to...

Boycott CNN, Bigoted CNN panel on Atheist.

The funny thing is, he's from ESPN. Not exactly who you'd expect for a panel on atheism. Really feels like someone took a giant pile of business cards, scattered them around the press room at CNN, and threw some darts up into the air. Wherever the darts landed, they placed calls and had them...

Cheney Goes on CNN and Acts Like a Dick

That, too, is completely and utterly false, the story did not come from FNC or anyone on their reporting team. The story originated on Insight Magazine's website. Text Text

Cheney Goes on CNN and Acts Like a Dick

Blitzer really didn't exactly come out swinging, either. He very meekly stands up to Cheney and allows himself to be railroaded on the answer, and then doesn't come back with anything on topic, instead leaving the course for something entirely different, and ends up sucking up entirely and then...

WSJ or FT? Which do you prefer?

Agreed. I've never been able to bring myself to read the WSJ, but I used to subscribe to the FT and only stopped because I moved to an area that would have delayed delivery a day or so and I'd rather pick it up at a newsstand the day of if I have time to read it.

QUESTION FOR ALL THE FISHERMEN OUT THERE

This man knows his stuff. I was just about to recommend a Zebco/Ugly Stick combination myself, it's what I started on. Can't offer much advice on lures though, as I haven't done much of my fishing in the US, and never for anything other than trout.

Moving out on your own in the US

For one summer, I lived at home and worked (and paid "rent"). For two more, I lived around campus working/taking courses. Really the only times I spent at home in college were around Christmas. In any case, I realize that I'm making broad generalizations.

Moving out on your own in the US

During the 90s the economy was in incredible shape, and this was still a very common thing. Anyway, the answers in this thread surprise me a bit. I'm used to people being bashed in a thread around here the moment it's noted that they're 18+ and living at home for any reason at all.

Moving out on your own in the US

Something interesting I've noticed. Here in the US, if you're living at home after 18, you are looked down on, considered a slacker, worthless, lazy, or some other similar thing. The rare exception is for a college student, and in that case they're seen as spoiled or mooching by many. I...

For those of you over 18: how often do you consult with your parents

Bingo. I talk to my parents at least once a week, and share most of my life decisions with them ahead of time. I just don't always agree with their positions on things, but often they have valuable insight and advice. And every so often they can help me out in some way I hadn't thought of.

BREAKING NEWS! Chocolate Pentagon attacked! Large section eaten...(PIC)

I think it was clear from the sub-title that it was a joke, and I didn't find it particularly offensive as someone who has friends and family that work at the Pentagon, and who works within less than two miles of the Pentagon. I got a chuckle.

The rest of the world is 220 volts (or thereabouts)

Actually, from what I understand, 110V is enough voltage that you "stick" to whatever's shocking you, and are exposed for longer, causing serious damage or death. With 220V, the charge is enough to throw you back with a bit of force, and thus causing less damage as you only get a momentary...

Google Checkout - Is it a Paypal killer?

Paypal has been the biggest pain in my rear end in the short history of my using the internet to do anything. If I can avoid it, I will never do business with them again. When I buy things online these days, I search for merchants who accept Google Checkout, and if no one does, I don't buy...

CNN Correspondant Calls Iraq War "Civil War"

No, I was thinking more that it would stop people from accusing me of supporting the Bush administration. Because it really gets old. Some people just don't realize that even within your own party you aren't going to agree with everyone 100% of the time, and just because someone happens to...

CNN Correspondant Calls Iraq War "Civil War"

Yeah, I guess that's more my issue here. Like I said above, I agree that it's degraded to civil war. What I take issue with is the fact that CNN, and also apparently NBC (I missed that one) are becoming the story by making a show of reporting it. I'm not really sure at what point it...

CNN Correspondant Calls Iraq War "Civil War"

Text So don't get me wrong, I'm not entirely in disagreement with the reporter in question. That said, his job is not to share with me his personal opinions on the stories. In this case, he's offering his personal opinion and not reporting the news, and to me that's a breach of journalistic...

so i went to the eye doctor today...

That was my thought as well. My eye doctor spotted hints that I could have minor retinal tearing a while back and told me that if I EVER had any sort of flashing round the periphery of my vision to RUN to his office immediately, as it was a sign of a detached retina.
