Since there will be no overclocking, is there any cheaper RAM available that I might be able to squeeze in 4GBs? Will speed of the RAM really matter for this build? I was thinking to help make this happen, we could not purchase a sound card initially and use onboard sound and only purchase 1...
Sorry about the confusion. I should have explained that the processor is basically a gift to him. But everything else around it, he has to get himself. And yes, I would have chosen a lesser processor as well. But this is basically what we have to work with.
Thanks for the reply. I'm leaning towards that sound card as well. I'll look into the MB suggestion. It's been a long time since I've looked at RAM, so I am completely clueless. Would there be any way for him to get more RAM into the system? Either cheaper RAM or cut back on the second HD...
Situation: A friend will be getting a Core 2 Extreme X6800 as a gift. He will have almost $1,500 for everything else and he wants me to help with the build. I haven't built a computer in a long, long time. He has no experience. So I'm hoping the friendly people here can help me, help him...
The last three credit cards, I've applied for for the purposes of some promo, I was accepted within minutes. However, this one just says we'll contact you via mail within 30 days, whether you were accepted or not. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
OK, here is a stupid question from a noob. I've received the speakers and now I'm ready to send in the mail in rebate.
The rebate says to send rebate form, UPC, and a copy of the receipt (with product circled).
What is acceptable as the receipt? I have the packing slip from the box it was...
Dang promo's... Decided to order this set of speakers and also signed up for the Amazon credit card for the instant $30 off qualifying purchase. So in the end, hopefully, it'll be $89.99 - 30 (amazon promo) -30 (rebate) = $29.99 for the speakers. Just too difficult to pass up. Thanks OP.
Hmm.. Strange, I decided to try this deal and the representative said the Ipod Shuffle promo was still valid, but only for about 2 more hours.
I applied for the credit card. Hopefully I'll get the Shuffle and will also be canceling the card soon after. I guess I'll find out within the next...
Thanks Riboon, I feel sorry for me too... I did read a couple of threads where you and others discussed component speaker setup vs PC speakers. But I decided I wanted PC speakers for my PC. Maybe I'll go down that road later in life. So I decided to go with one of the top-tier pc speakers...
Thanks for the replies. I did call Newegg, took awhile to get through to the rep. They said they couldn't do anything about the price. If I returned the speakers there would be the restock fee. But he did say if I refused the package then I would be out only the shipping charge (it was free...
I purchased some speakers from Newegg and they've already been shipped with an estimated delivery date of next Tuesday. This morning I found a much better deal on the same speakers someplace else.
Is there any way to cancel/return these to Newegg without being charged the 15% restock fee...
Ack.. I just put in an order at Newegg for these speakers. I need help on what options do I have. The speakers from Newegg has already been shipped and are scheduled to be delivered next Tuesday. How do I return these to Newegg and avoid their 15% restock fee?
Also how does Dell know if...
Bamacre,
Are you sure the 4700's & 8400's all have DDR2? I haven't read anywhere regarding that. Hopefully you are right, it'll make me feel better about the one I purchased for myself when I thought it was only regular DDR, but it did say it was the 6800 GTO.
How long has it taken Dell...
Thanks everyone for your help... I ended up buying it.. Now I have to figure out what to do with the other system. I figure as long as it holds me over for the next 3+ years like my last one, it'll be a bargain, since I paid much more than $754 for my last computer. Thanks again.
Here's the whole specs..

It's to keep for myself, because I'm thinking of building a computer.. However this deal comes about $250 shy of what I was thinking about spending... How much is the 256MB Nvidia GeForce 6800 GTO Graphics Card worth? Maybe that will help me make up my mind. For my build I was thinking of...
Ok.. I'm home now.. and I have this in my cart..

Hard Disk Drive: 160 GB EIDE SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)

Thanks for the replies. I'm still a bit torn. Can anyone tell me the difference between the 4700's and the 8400's? Why are the 8400's more expensive than the 4700's. Seems like a lot of the same components are in both.
Maybe I'll see if I can pick up something a little better for a little...
Hello all..
My first post. (But I've been lurking for a long time) I have a couple of hopefully quick questions. Would any of these cheap dell rigs satisfy any of you as your everyday computer?
I'm still on my old AMD 1700+, 512mb Ram, GF3 Ti200 (I think that's the video card) running...
