Would you take i7-920 or i7-870?

Thanks all. I already got a i7-870 in my pocket now :) Will need to buy a motherboard and CPU fan! Can't wait to get my i7 box setup.... but dread the application/file migration ... grrr :D

Win7 VM - AutoLogin to Domain?

48 port 10 gig ethernet switch

sweet :) but I am seeing a lot more ISP in our area deploying force10 for their 10gbps switching. Cost about 60% less http://www.force10networks.com/products/s4810.asp I wonder how it really stacks up in backplane performance :D

@Morg, the 1156 boards are definitely cheaper compared to the 1366. I am seeing a saving of around $40-50 for the board that I like. Yes it sux that Intel hates us and comes up with so much socket types with short lifespan. I love LGA775-like lifespan :D yeah I guess a little overclocking...

100C temps on i7-920 C0/C1 (with 212+) HELP!

most likely bad heatsink compound placement (too much), or bad CPU fan placement. you have to make sure the heatsink touches the CPU in a perfect manner.

Stable in orthos for only 25-26hrs w/ E8400

Nah I am pretty sure this computer did not booted. All my apps, my remote desktop connections, etc are still in tact. Orthos itself did not shutdown, but it became "IDLE" instead of "GO".

This is my primary home workstation. I can afford downtime on this thing with other work pcs, laptop, old pcs, etc ... I'll try upping the vcore a bit... E8400 default is 1.15... at 1.24 i am a little below 10% increase

I am currently running E8400 @ 3.8ghz stable. On my motherboard Gigabyte P35-DS3L Bios setting, I set the CPU Vcore up to 1.3 Volt... However CPU-Z, CPUID, Speedfan is reporting that the Vcore is 1.26Volt. This is the same case when I was overclocking it at 3.6Ghz, 3.7Ghz, 3.9Ghz...

Suggestions for buying a server

Few comments 1. I would bump up the processor to Quad Core 2.0 or 2.33 Ghz. 2. 4GB of RAM is ok to start with, however make sure to get 2x2GB stick. NOT 4x1GB 3. I would bump the drive to 3x500GB. HD upgrade is so cheap and you will be dissapointed when your fileserver quickly fills up...

Recommendation for DD-WRT compatible router?

Yes I understand what you're saying. I would not go with any other crappy soho router os other than DD-WRT.... I am able to easily run traffic monitoring, bandwidth graphing, separate my home network to a couple vlan, perform QOS, and also block torrent TCP traffic going to my roomate's computer...

Get Buffallo... probably the best device for DD-WRT... WHR-HP-G54 I've probably flashed at least a dozen of these boxes. Never a problem... very easy and performance is good :) Go get it boy!

Exchange providing wrong external IP in message headers

are you using your barracuda as outbound smtp relay? If yes, then the RDNS needs to be created for barracuda, instead of your exchange box. You also have to make sure your exchange uses the barracuda as its smtp forwarder (in exch2007, its under smtp send connector) I never have problem...

Need you opinion on 22" or 24" LCD

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will settle with a single 24" for now :) I am not even going for the S-IPS panel from Dell, but will just get a TN panel (hopefully from CC on BF). So when the LCD market settles down, and price of S-IPS 24" is around $400, then I will upgrade :) eRr
