Shi-at! I just spent $500 at newegg on PC components last week.
Well, I got in under the wire this week: purchased a TV tuner card for $88, then added NOD32 antivirus for $25 to get over the $100 threshold.
Eh, that CUSA in Edison is a crappy space. Now if they took over any of the stores across Route 1 from it (Home Depot, Stop & Shop, Office Depot, etc.), then you'd have something!
Man, this deal is HOT!
Unfortunately it was only a few months ago that I bought a top-of-the-line Bosch (a/k/a Siemens) washer and dryer at a local appliance dealer and paid close to $2000 even after $250 in mail-in rebates.
Oh, it'll matter the day you go to read one of those GQ discs and it won't read.
In the '70s, when I wanted to buy tape cassettes, I would buy Maxell UDXL II's. I'd steer clear of the store brands. Same rules apply today. It's not about how much the media costs; it's about how much you value...
Also, look in the box for a special offer for a spindle of CDRs or DVDRs (Taiyo Yudens both) for just $5 shipping. At least, I got this offer when the Plex was a hot deal from PC Connection a few months back.
The best deal on the PX-716A remains the PC Connection deal, which, IIRC, comes to $60 after two mail-in rebates ($50 and $30) plus adds a 50-spindle of FujiFilm DVDRs FAR. Only thing is, like most other sites and stores, it's on backorder. Last I heard, at PC Connection, until December 20...
I too just got my $100 rebate from TiVo from the BB deal a few months back, making my second TiVo FAR.
If you can swing this deal at CrapUSA or PM at a competitor, do it! I'll give up my TiVo only when they pry it from my cold, dead hands!
What happens if PC/Mac Connection doesn't make its ETA for the PX-716A? What if they don't get it until after 12/31? What will you do with your rebates then?
"Due to extremely high volume, My WishList is currently unavailable. Please check back soon."
*Sigh*
Guess I'll just have to keep driving that old rattletrap a while longer...
So it's okay to repeatedly post "Don't forget about FatCash" or "Don't forget about eBates" for 2% (wow)--but not to post "Don't forget about A9" for 1.57%? What's the difference? (I know, I know...about .43%.) :)
Since the A9 discount is new, we can forgive a standalone post about it...once.
muse, that's an eloquent post, and I agree with it. I'm not defending TiVo's practice of charging for a subscription. I too think it's repugnant, and makes the decision to jump on the TiVo bandwagon a lot harder. But as a consumer, the decision for me is less one of principle than of value. When...
You lost me with that digital stuff. But as I understand it, digital cable requires a digital tuner in front of each receiving device (be it a television, VCR, or PVR). So the answer, I think....is yes.
I'm not sure this answer is on point for what you asked. There is a cable-ready analog TV...
Usable with OTA and cable, but for satellite, there's a different TiVo, called DirecTiVo, that's much better for that purpose. I'm not sure those are still being sold; or if they are, will be for much longer.
If you cancel TiVo service after you get your rebate on this deal, you will be left...
What you're paying for is the provision of TV schedule data that enables the TiVo to function as an automated recording device, which is the real joy about it.
That a Series 2 TiVo is useless without that data, and cannot be used manually, well...so it goes. If telephones were free, they'd be...
fleshconsumed: That's your opinion. But there are a lot of TiVo devotees out there who would differ. You should give it a try. With free hardware (if this deal pans out) there's little risk. Subscribe for a few months and then decide. I think you will change your mind.
coolred: The TiVo...
Only Series 1 TiVo's may be used as digital VCRs without a subscription. It can be done, but the value added by the service is well worth it, IMO.
These are Series 2 TiVo's.
