My 980gtx lasted 8 years until I sold it on eBay last year.
In my 2nd (3dvision) gaming rig I still have the 1080-ti gtx running strong on Windows 7 but Steam already notified me it will stop support Wins 7 at the end of 2023.
The RD I had could very well be a lemon.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention. The fan curve definitely plays a huge play in taming the temps with the price of noise.
Asrock, and Powercolor (red Devil) were the only two variants that I used and returned. I am running the Hellhound version right now in my rig. The trick that I use is that every time I start the game for the first time I watch the junction temps very carefully. If it goes beyond 90c the I start...
For the most parts the card plays my games at the highest levels possible with the exception of the MSFS2020 and Cyber2077 (no other gpus could afaik).
My most concern is the AMD driver should be able to contain the junction temps of the card. I've yet changed to at least several 7900xtx cards...
It seems like the last few drivers have done nothing but tweaking for the new games.
All the known/existing issues stay exactly the same for a while now.
Otherwise it is pointless to upgrade unless you play the new game(s), IMO.
"High idle power has situationally been observed when using select high-resolution and high refresh rate displays on Radeon™ RX 7000 series GPUs"
I definitely have seen this in my 7900xtx or ~50w-60w at idle and with 5k display and 240hz refresh.
I did some research that Radeon Chill when "on" does cap the frame rate thus saving power.
This is what some of my extensive power hog games like MSFS or DCS are which is fine by me since the hot season is upon us (hint: Texas)
It seems like most of my games are locked in at 75fps or lower in the last few drivers including the latest one.
My ultrawide Samsung monitor has 240 refresh rate with free-sync compatible.
Does anyone have a hint?
Lack of VRAM which causes stutter when you play flight sim games (DCS or MSFS) or some of the newer games like Last of Us.
The 7900 xtx has had no issue with that kind of game whatsover.
In DCS it draws close to 20gb on certain game scenarios.
In MSFS it draws a bit less than DCS.
In VR it draws...
Having owned the7900xtx for a spread of over two months now I have to say these are great high end cards for the value/money in comparison the competitor.
It took a bit to learn how to get around and tweaks the settings for each of game I play but at the end it's all worth it.
I think it's a...
Is it the Global settings?
I've had the card over a month now so I am gaining experience as I go along.
I have similar settings like what the previous poster did for my global settings.
For game specific I tailor each game settings as I look at my fps and junction temps.
Junction temps were and...
I have not done anything fancy just yet as far as oc my 7900xtx and I intend not to either.
The Adrenaline software looks like it was developed in 21st century whereas where I was from (NVIDIA). Its software looks like it came from Win 97.
Anyone here playing Last of Us P1? The game has been bombarded with negative review on Steam.
I just d/l the game yesterday and with the latest driver. It runs like a dream. Mostly high 80fps with very high settings and best yet @ very low junction temp (80c) LOL.
I wonder the lesser powerful sibling 7900xt would be more worth it for me since I have to undervolt and underclock in oder to keep the junct tamps below 100c with my 7900xtx.
And how much in % would the overall performance be with the 7900xt in a 5k monitor?
One of the games I played froze and it needed a reboot.
Launched Adrenaline upon returning to windows.
All of my favorite tuned games are gone bye-bye.
WTF happened and is there a way to recover from this because I hate to go back and do it all over again?
g/c is the ASrock 7900xtx.
Despite a few quirks in tweaking games (I'm new to AMD g/c) I strongly believe the 7900xtx is a keeper. It has allowed me to play games such as COD BO and Vanguard without a hitch whereas the previous NVIDIA (3090ti) could never pass shader compilation w/o crashing to desktop. The sim games are...
Not all games I play reach that high. This might just do the trick for me. Games that run the junction temp up. I tuned it to 95% underclock and 97% undervolt which brings Junction temp goes below 100c to low 90c.
Hey guys and gals...My junction and gpu delta temps is around 40c or high 90c and high 50c respectively.
I've been reading off some AMD ref cards had had a history of extremely high junction temps that sort of worries me.
Would the wide delta gap be a cause for concern?
Is the hot spot temp is the same as junction temp?
And it is mostly read in the 90c in game.
GPU is mostly read in the 60c while in game.
Would it be a concern on a in-game long duration?
Also note I run everything on default speed.
Messed around with Adrenaline and enabled the Sup res feature and the new scores just skyrocketed.
Overall = 25312
GPU = 30207
CPU = 13196
FPS 185+ for BFV
I still can use some advice for game settings.
I do a lot of siming such as DCS and MSFS with and without VR headset.
Time Spy (diectx12)
GPU scores 19687
CPU 13037
FPS 180+ for BFV
Obviously my score is a bit too low. I am fairly new to AMD's Adrenaline settings. (ex-NVIDIA here for quite sometime:-))
SO I can use some advice what your settings are
Ex-Nvidia control panel user here so I am practically new to AMD software tuning.
Just got my new 7900xtx and I am already tuning fans and power for certain games and I have not yet done anything else beyond that so I thought to myself why not post something here to see what other mates have to...
I
Paid a tiny bit over $1k tax included in my local MC near me.
I just wanted to add this specifically for those flight simmers like myself.
Gaming in VR with either DCS or MSFS (mine is HTC VP2) .
VRAM usage hovers close to 20gb plus the frame rate around 40s and I was like "holy moly. ;)"...
Having been the last 15 years as a NVIDIA fan boy.
Sorry NVIDIA! I am no longer.
Sold my 3090ti and got this bad boy "Powercolor Red Devil LE OC 7900XTX" version with some $$$ change left (local MC near me).
Card is built like a tank with very quiet cooling fans and very nice RGB.
So far I am...
Wait a minute!
Or wait for another year. Is that what I've been hearing?
I'm not wasting thousands of dollars worth of hardware sitting around waiting for the next generation of gpu that perhaps never delivers on time and @ MSRP.
In case you wondered. I chose to keep the 3080ti @830+tax and two...
It sounds like 3080 ti at the price of $830 still is a sweet spot card over the 3080 @ $798?
I prefer the Asus version over the eVGA one simply ir runs a bit cooler in my small HTPC case.
3090 for $1000.00
3080 ti for $850.00
Not new in the box they are both opened box sale.
The 3080 12gb costs more than aforementioned cards. LOL.
I also do VR.
Note that VR in msfs2020 though rarely happens (depends on certain sceneries/flight models etc) but it can eat 12gb for lunch at no time.
Guys...I need some help to decide...
The delta between a 3090 and a 3080 ti is only $150.
Which card should I buy?
My heart keeps saying 3090 since it doubles the memories.
My head keeps thinking it is $150 poorer for me.
Performance wise it is about the same.
I do a lot of flight sim stuff if...
I just picked up an Asus 3080 ti TUF in sub $900 which is $100 less than what I just paid for rtx 3080 a week ago.
I am happy to be living close to MC. :p
