SLI or "CROSSFIRE"

There's not a whole lot of logic in that. Two cores + double the memory bandwidth < more vram? I think not. The 512mb variant of the 6800U doesn't really gain anything in terms of performance. Nextgen cards will be a little better, but it's not like it's going to be a night and day...

Rollo, you're a troll. I played Doom 3 at 1280x1024 with 2xAF with my 9600 Pro. I am sure the framerate wasn't in the fifties, but it was quite playable, thank you. Television, which is perfectly smoothe thank you, runs at just under 30 frames per second? You don't NEED 40-50 FPS to enjoy a game.

Best CPU for gaming server??

I concur, a San Diego core will more than suffice. Dual processor is only for machines that run multiple CPU intensive apps, since the system bus is too slow to share info between the two processors effectively like with a multithreaded app. That's why Intel's dualies are getting pwned by AMD...

Of course the FX line is faster at gaming, that's what the FX line is for (well, actually, it's for taking money from people with more cash than brains...or just a LOT of cash) X2 overclocked to 3.0ghz+ on water=wishful thinking, maybe...godly computerness, maybe...

You can definitely save money on the motherboard and bump up your video a bit, if you're not overclocking then you really are better off with an Asus or MSI board.

what do you think of Sony Vaio?

My father has owned two sony desktops. Never once has a part failed, they are both whisper quiet and quite cool (and the newer of the two has a Prescott in it), and the cases are easy to work in. All this, plus Sony's incredible style, beaten only by Mac in my opinion - good purchases. Vaio...

A case that would match a G5.

I am sorry, but I find this thread quite pointless. There is no PC case that can compare to a G5 case, anywhere. The Lian-Li PC-V1100 is nice though...in my opinion, much nicer than the 1000. More expensive too, though :(

How does RAID work?

RAID is all about protecting large amounts of important data. You put multiple drives on an array so that if one fails, you have a backup all the time and you can rebuild the data quickly.

Well, given that the demos shown at E3 were running on G5s, it's not much of a stretch. The Xbox 360 really is just a super powered Mac computer underneath, so I don't think it will take long at all.

Having four sticks is only a problem with AMD cpus, and you have an intel so you could. However, intel mobos benefit from dual channel, so get two 512s and replace the old ones.

6600GT to 6800GT

BFGs overclocks are really conservative and cost you extra money. MSI for nVidia, Sapphire or Asus for ATI.
