Wow, thanks for the quick response. I already have firewire connections on my machine - is this what you mean by needing an adaptor? With these connections I should be able to connect an external firewire kit/cable (with the ide drive inside) directly to the machine and access the drive, correct?

Is there a device that will allow you to take an ide hard drive and use it as an external drive with a firewire connection? I'd like to be able to take an ide hard drive and easily transport it to another computer at a separate location. This would be a data drive only, not one with an OS on it...

Alienware; Seems great but really Sucks

Looking at the list, the hardware that has added the most functionality, to me, is the ATI AIW 8500DV. Hopes are up for affordable dvd burners and hdtv tuner cards in 2002, but more than likely they'll have to wait til 2003.

I take it you mean the All In Wonder Pro? If so, it's understandable the tv tuner doesn't work in XP. Going to ATI's website and selecting XP as the OS and the All In Wonder Pro card, it will tell you the drivers on their site are display drivers only. There are no tv tuner drivers for this card...

Wow, current PS2 games only use 25% of PS2 power!

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony releases the PS2 with the hard drive and network adaptor bundle at the $299 price, then drop the price of the system itself to $199.

What exactly do the ATI AIW cards offer, specifically the 8500DV?

If this is not going to be used a lot for gaming, then you don't need the speed of the newer card. If you don't need firewire, you'd be paying extra by going with the newer card. Why pay extra for features you won't be using? Therefore, I'd suggest saving some money and going with the older All...

Based on your comments, for the price you may be better off going with the first Radeon All In Wonder card and tracking down the newer mmc 7.5 version software. I'm using one to copy my vhs tapes over to the hard drive, and with the newer mmc version mentioned above, no longer have any dropped...

Radeon 8500 driver released 11-15 support AIW Radeon?

Not 100% certain, but I believe the 8500 drivers expect DirectX8.1 to be installed on the machine. I'd suggest installing 8.1 and see if that fixes things.

Just got my DVD+RW today and it rocks!

Congrats! Me, hafta wait until prices come down to the $200-$300 range. Maybe next summer/fall when newer and faster drives come out. Until then, I go without :( Hardware, I agree - dvd+r(w) is the next killerapp, along with hdtv tuners :D
