Anand off to San Fran, seeing something special !?

The G400 MAX came out a few months before the TNT2 Ultra and 6 months or so before the first GeForce, if memory serves correctly. This was late 1999/early 2000. I remember arguing with a coworker about how great the image was on my new G400 MAX and he was spouting how the GeForce would dominate...

Anand off to San Fran, seeing something special !?

Hmm, with the company getting back in to graphics, as well as a company we haven't heard from in awhile...could it be Creative Labs showing off a new graphics card?!

Does Such A Piece of Hardware Like This Exist?

Wow, thanks for the quick response. I already have firewire connections on my machine - is this what you mean by needing an adaptor? With these connections I should be able to connect an external firewire kit/cable (with the ide drive inside) directly to the machine and access the drive, correct?

Does Such A Piece of Hardware Like This Exist?

Is there a device that will allow you to take an ide hard drive and use it as an external drive with a firewire connection? I'd like to be able to take an ide hard drive and easily transport it to another computer at a separate location. This would be a data drive only, not one with an OS on it...

The SSSCA and Silicon Valley: The computing industry stands up for consumer rights against media corporations

Think this can't happen in America? Take a look at the Communist Manifesto and see how many of them are now in effect in the US. This topic goes far beyond the scope of Anandtech's computer expertise. Look into the history and actions of the UN. Look into all the laws being passed to make it...

The SSSCA and Silicon Valley: The computing industry stands up for consumer rights against media corporations

The MPAA are doing similar gestapo tactics under the guise of copy-protection in regards to hdtv. It all boils down to greed and control. If this kind of legislation passes, we will effectively have a PAY-TO-PLAY aspect to every form of media. Can you believe that the RIAA is blaming "rampant...

R250: ATI to Announce RADEON 8500XT and RV250 in March

Why do most threads end up in flame wars and Product A vs. Product B? Looking at the thread title, it has nothing to do with a card being better or worse than any other. Those of you arguing about the advantages of the card you own are going to be the same ones discarding the very same card 6...

Options for multiple IDE hard drives, no raid?

Thanks for all the suggestions. Sounds like just throwing a controller card into the machine is the best course of action. I'm surprised this hasn't become standard on mobo's as it doesn't seem to add greatly to the cost. With faster bus speeds and serial ATA around the corner, I'm wondering if...

Options for multiple IDE hard drives, no raid?

What options are there for multiple hard drives using IDE, no raid? Basically I want to add a couple hard drives to a machines for storage, keeping it as simple as possible. Since the machine will have a dvd drive and a cd-recorder, that takes up one channel master and slave. However, if I want...

Some Much Better GeForce 4 Details! :)

Hmm, me thinks I'll wait until a game like Doom3 comes out (whenever that is) and upgrade my video card then. I'm thinking that's going to be a GeForce 5 in 2003.

Alienware; Seems great but really Sucks

I bought an Alienware at the end of 1998 that cost me $3600. Top of the line at the time with a 19" monitor. Didn't have any problems with it so I didn't have to use their tech support. Between late 98 and late 2001 I replaced every component in the machine except the cpu and mobo. In the end...

NVIDIA nForce to Offer Integrated GeForce 3 (NV17) Graphics by March!!

Nice, but not anything I'd be interested in. It was smart to release a board without video, but with the way many here upgrade their machines, this doesn't have anything most would want. I agree it'll be good for the OEM market. Geforce 3 quality and speed video as standard? Next month everyone...

    ATI R300 rumours

Yes, this is a generalization, but if you're a hardcore gamer, you're going to go with Nvidia. If you want to do more than game, like watch tv/dvd and do video capture, you'll go ATI. ATI is more of a "video" card while Nvidia is more a "gaming" card. Personally, instead of choosing to buy the...

    ATI R300 details out

That's great to hear. Let's just hope ATI can provide us with some good, strong drivers. With the 8500DV just now hitting shelves, I wonder if they should have waited until summer of 2002 and used this newer chip? Ah well, come on ATI, give me a reason to upgrade my AIW Radeon!

I'm sick & tired of increased GPU/memory speeds, how about some better features...DEVELOPERS, LISTEN UP!!

<< I want some friggen awesome GRAPHICS CAPABILITIES. >> You mean like an HDTV tuner/decoder onboard? I've found it odd that there are so many that rush out to get the latest video card when released, yet the drivers will be buggy and no software will be able to take advantage of anything...

Poll: Your Favorite Computer Hardware of 2001

Looking at the list, the hardware that has added the most functionality, to me, is the ATI AIW 8500DV. Hopes are up for affordable dvd burners and hdtv tuner cards in 2002, but more than likely they'll have to wait til 2003.

Computer hardware is SO overpriced !!!

Well, if you're the type who always has to go out and buy the newer video cards and cpus the second they hit the shelves, then yeah, it can get expensive pdq. You can buy a $1000 computer and upgrade it in a year or so, or spend $2000 on a computer and upgrade it in 18-24 months. If you were...

ati should be ashamed of themselves

I take it you mean the All In Wonder Pro? If so, it's understandable the tv tuner doesn't work in XP. Going to ATI's website and selecting XP as the OS and the All In Wonder Pro card, it will tell you the drivers on their site are display drivers only. There are no tv tuner drivers for this card...

Wow, current PS2 games only use 25% of PS2 power!

What exactly do the ATI AIW cards offer, specifically the 8500DV?

If this is not going to be used a lot for gaming, then you don't need the speed of the newer card. If you don't need firewire, you'd be paying extra by going with the newer card. Why pay extra for features you won't be using? Therefore, I'd suggest saving some money and going with the older All...

What exactly do the ATI AIW cards offer, specifically the 8500DV?

Based on your comments, for the price you may be better off going with the first Radeon All In Wonder card and tracking down the newer mmc 7.5 version software. I'm using one to copy my vhs tapes over to the hard drive, and with the newer mmc version mentioned above, no longer have any dropped...

Radeon 8500 driver released 11-15 support AIW Radeon?
