    News AMD Announces Radeon VII

I think it is more correct to say this card exists at all as a consumer product because of Nvidia's pricing. If the RTX 2080 started at more traditional $550 or $600 AMD doesn't even bother to bring this to market, it would be correctly derided as overpriced. Instead, since Nvidia raised the...

AMD Vega (FE and RX) Benchmarks [Updated Aug 10 - RX Vega 64 Unboxing]

Yeah I think thats a big part of it. People looking at top of the line cards will likely be pairing them with top of line monitors so you can look at the full ecosystem cost. Looking at the 144Hz 1440p IPS monitors (currently seems like the sweet spot on quality gaming monitors) GSync adds about...

    Vega/Navi Rumors (Updated)

The FE sits in the same awkward place as the Titans. It isn't a pro card and it is at the far end of the diminishing returns curve for actual performance making it a bad deal for pretty much everyone. I don't begrudge AMD for trying to get in on the spare-no-expense money train like nVidia has...

    Who bought/is buying a Radeon RX 480?

Lots of discussion in this thread: http://www.overclock.net/t/1581706/acer-xf270hu-1440-ips-144-hz-adaptive-sync-thread In short, overdrive doesn't work when Freesync is enabled so the monitors response time creates some very bad blur.

    Who bought/is buying a Radeon RX 480?

Yeah also apparently this monitor has issues with it's freesync implementation. So back to playing the now in stock game on 480s and 1060s.

    Who bought/is buying a Radeon RX 480?

Amazon has it for 470 from one seller, not Amazon themselves so its not quite that good of a deal but still a very solid one. Guess this deal makes forces the question on 480 vs 1060 for me.

    Who bought/is buying a Radeon RX 480?

My figuring is pre-order on Amazon since I certainly wouldn't mind one and then see if I can do better with NowInStock for either a good 480 or 1060, ideally on newegg to use that promo code. Amazon preorder seems like a useful hedge/backup plan.

Official AMD Polaris Review Thread: Radeon RX 480, RX 470, and RX 460

Really glad to see the 4GB AIB card, although the slightly lower OC is a little sad. Still that kind of performance with a solid cooler at $220 is a killer deal.

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

I saw the $250 1060 in stock on newegg this morning and kinda regret not pulling the trigger. Thats a really good price for AIB. Once you start getting up into the $270 range its still a good card but not a slam dunk. I'll be interested to see if any AIBs come out with 4GB RX480s with good...

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

The difference in conclusions from the various review sites is really interesting. TechPowerUp is strongly in the GTX 1060 camp: https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1060/31.html Guru3D seems to skew toward the 1060 over the 480...

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

Its sold out now but there was a Gigabyte 1060 available on Newegg for 250 so it seems like some AIBs will hit reference pricing. It seems like you can make a valid case for either the RX480 or GTX 1060 depending on the exact games you play, how long you plan to keep the card for and the...

The 9/9/2014 Apple Launch Event Thread

The hand size of the 6 seems fine but not for the screen size you get. Slightly smaller than a lot of the android phones but with only a 4.7 inch screen versus 5+ on the android phones.

The 9/9/2014 Apple Launch Event Thread

Battery Life. With a space constrained device battery life is always going to be a big issue and the more functionality you pile onto the watch the less its going to have. Given current battery capacity I'm still not convinced a full color screen makes sense for a device like this. Its...

The 9/9/2014 Apple Launch Event Thread

There isn't much on the device that the android watches don't already have in some form. I like the dial concept (sorry lefties) but otherwise it doesn't seem to have anything that really sets it apart from what everyone else has been doing. The watch feels like a "me too" product more than...

The 9/9/2014 Apple Launch Event Thread

My thoughts exactly, Apple seems to be commiting the same sin Samsung did with their first gen watch. Throw the kitchen sink worth of features on the watch to make it "more functional" while missing that the key power of the watch over a phone in convenient display rather than interaction.

The 9/9/2014 Apple Launch Event Thread

So far haven't seen anything that goes beyond what my Pebble or an android watch does. I like the dial more than the android touch only interface but otherwise not seeing any major advantages.

But they aren't really. Looking at their little video its using a pre-existing kiosk. Apple isn't pushing adoption here they are simply coming to the party after the infrastructure already exists.

Curious how they improve on the google now walking distance stuff thats been around for a few years now. Also curious how they handle calibration on the barometer, my dad had a barometer watch and it worked pretty well but he needed to recalibrate it pretty regularly to get decent accuracy.

    ***OFFICIAL SUPERBOWL XLVIII Thread***

I think if you look you can find classless behavior by most team's fans. Just off the top of my head you have Texans fans cheering when Schaub got injured and the philly fans booing when one of NO's players got injured in the wildcard round. All teams have annoying fans, or at least all teams...

President of ARM says your smartphone will have 16 and 32 cores in a few years

I don't see why mobile workloads make them inherently more amenable to many-core design vs. typical consumer desktop/laptop workloads. Adding cores is hard, much past 8 and you start running into major communication issues. Certainly there are ways around it that are commonly used by many...

How interested would you be in buying an iWatch?

Exactly this. I get lots of emails everyday, some important, most not. Checking the importance of an email without having to pull out my phone would basically be enough for me. Add in more features piggybacking off your phones capabilities, and I could very easily seeing a smart watch being...

iPhone 5 most reliable by a large margin - FixYa Rating

Just looking at the graphs linked, 35% of the complaints were based on battery life, 20% on a lack of new features. Those would hardly be what I consider reliability related.

How interested would you be in buying an iWatch?

I'm curious what you think Pebble needs. I'm holding off on Pebble to see if the developer support materializes because that will make or break Pebble as a platform but assuming developer support does materialize Pebble seems like exactly what I'm looking for.

How interested would you be in buying an iWatch?

I'm not sure we need Apple to do the major lifting on the smart watch. In the past 10 years or so a lot of companies have started to follow Apple's pattern of emphasizing functionality over feature creep and tech specs. Certainly there are still plenty of holdouts in the later category but the...

Jury Misconduct in the Samsung V Apple case

The Seagate thing is silly. Will it come to something? Maybe, but I'm not sure how substantive it is. The far bigger issue, which seems to be getting lost in all the discussion of the Seagate nonsense, is how the foreman in interviews after the trial talked at length about the legal standards...
