Windows XP CDKEY/ Windows update question

How do you know that? I have two computers with XP Pro SP1. When I was ready to install SP2 on the two computers I just popped in the CD with SP2 and installed it. No key was required.

Can I use the Win98SE install floppy to get my PC to recognize a CD-ROM

If the Windows XP CD is an upgrade then keep the Windows 98 SE CD handy. If the drive does not have Windows 98 on it then it will ask you to prove you qualify for the upgrade. Just insert the Windows 98 CD for a minute to verify you qualfy and reinsert the Windows XP CD when instructed.

Why is it when I try to install my Chipset driver (nVidia) it would start then just crash and do nothing?

I had the same problem with the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe. Installling the Nvidia IDE driver gave me blue screens. Installing all the drivers but the IDE one worked fine.
