FarCry Questions about HDR and SM3.0.

Yes -- make sure your game is patched to 1.33, because that's where they added Pixel Shader 3.0. Also, try Forceware 78.01, which I think is still in beta. Made a difference for me in the quality of detail on FC.

How much better is high performance RAM?

Ok, I know it's $34 better: 2x512 Corsair Value Select @ Newegg vs. 2x512 Corsair XMS @ Newegg But what's the real-world gaming / overall performance advantage? Can anyone suggest / link to an article with benchmarks? I've seen a lot of contradictory opinions on these boards...

HELP with New Build PLS.

Is the 2800 an XP or 64? Is it s754 or s939? Looks to me like you're laying out a long-term upgrade plan rather than an immediate performance boost. It's not MUCH better than what you've got, but will make another upgrade in 1yr cheaper and easier.

Because the AS5 needs to cure. If you removed the HSF you can introduce dust, surface irregularities, or other elements that may prevent it from doing so properly.

I had a Cytrix chip in 1996 (Compaq), and in 2000 I "upgraded" to a Celeron. The Cytrix was by far more impressive and stable.

Got the upgrade itch! Help with choosing parts....

I'd definitely go for the 6600GT. Price dif over the vanilla 66 is relatively small, but the GDDR3 with help with video playback. Got mine a couple of weeks ago and I'm really pleased so far.

My CPU idles way too hot

Don't underestimate the influence of ambient temperature. I was shocked at the temp differences from spring to summer on my machine, a Socket 754 3000+ Newcastle. I spent a lot of time and money reconfiguring my case's airflow until an $80 air conditioner from Home Depot solved the problem. PC...

need new video card.....6600gt or 6800nu or x800 AGP?

I agree that that the RAM and 6600gt combo represents the best price/performance ratio. Just upgraded to a Gigagbyte 6600GT (AGP) (thanks Newegg) from a GeForceFX 5500, took my 3DMark 05 score from sub 100 to 3300. With a gig of RAM, should be fine for BF2 at cost of around $200.

Noob Cooling Question

:confused:So my AMD64 3000+ is running in the low to mid 40s (C) at idle and mid to high 50's under load. I've heard that 65 is the damage threshhold, so I'm concerned that I'm that close to damage. As far as cooling goes I've got 2 80mm fans near the top of the case (Aspire X-Dreamer)...
