    Why not just install to a directory other than the default? Something like C:\windows_2 . Always worked ok on NT/2000....I assume it would work on xp. Once you boot into it you should be able to do whatever you want to the files on the drive.

    Very possible. I just recently had one where the psu died and fried the motherboard, video card, and hard drive as well. When it died, the room filled with that "is-something-burning?" smell. :( You might want to check out your other components as well. Good luck.

    Quiet CPU cooler for Pentium 4

    pm....My case temp runs around 25C/26C. All temps measured by MBM5. Taz...I have the 400W Silencer from PCP&C and have been very happy with it. Nice and quiet without having to mod. Plus it delivers good consistent levels across all rails.

    I wouldn't think it's coming from the PSU.....Especially since you mention that this is the 2nd one you've tried. I'd guess it's more likely coming from another component, like clumsum mentions, maybe from the motherboard. BTW - I've used Silencer PSU's before and never noticed a smell from them
