I wouldn't recommend it; on-board RAID 5 runs off host CPU and when your systems locks up or blue screens, guess what happens to your data?

Hot Still? e7200 at Frys for $80

I am still on 3 yr old Opteron 165, so everything out there is 'newer.' That said, since all I ever play is (gasp) Diablo 2, it's more than adequate... till Diablo 3 hit the street (probably) next year.

I had compatibility issue with PQI uSD before (the card reader in DELL Inspiron insists it's write protected) but Kingston cards work fine.

Word around is that some Maxtor SATA drives exhabits compatibility issues with nVidia NForce 4 based motherboards. Best to double check before buying into one (or more.)

In CA we get it right up our ... ~8.5% sales tax (depending on county) + income tax. And we are expected to report our "untaxed purchases" made through the net and mail, and pay sales tax on that too.

People should be aware that although most systems are compatible with ECC modules, few supports registered (aka buffered) modules. Registed ECC modules are typically used in servers and may not be compatible with desktop systems. That said however, the links you provided are e*ay links...

Staples.com Maxtor SATA 200GB 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive with PCI Card Bundle

I don't think that's the case. What's more likely is that Seagate is clearing Maxtor inventory. Having long warranty period mean that they have to stock replacement parts, and my guess is that Seagate just doesn't want to deal with it.

Are all DVI sources from video cards really the same?

I had no end of problems with 6600GT and SGI 1600SW/Multilink (DVI). All the problem disappears if I swap the 6600GT with an ATi card or older nVidia (GF3 vintage) card.

There is, although it is illegal to market in the US due to the law most of us love to hate: DMCA. I recall seeing a product that does exactly that advertised in Europe (somewhere, since price was quoted in euro.)

TV Capture card advice

PVR-150 is a fine card, although I have heard on and off the bundled software is crap. That said however it is well supported in most third party applications, so it should be a non-issue.

Are you happy with current Anand video reviews?

It would be nice if review can go over VIVO feature, seeing that it's rapidly becoming a rather "standard" thing to be included on video cards. After all there are only so many different ways a review site can run the bench marks, and pretty much that's the only thing every review site I've seen...

Thanks for all the suggestions. To clearify - a. Before installing the card, I ran driver cleaner already. That said, I ran it again after the card wasn't being recognized. Still no dice. b. The system is being powered by PC Power and Cooling 425w PS, so I don't think lack of sufficient...

Recent bought into the x850 XT AGP $249 AR from microcenter. Eagerly dropped it into my DELL 400SC (running XP SP2) and installed latest driver off ATI website. Surprise surprise the card doesn't work; the card showed up under "unknown device." Odd thing is, the card it replaced, GF 6600GT...

Actually according to a friend dealing in the channels, NewEgg sometimes makes as little as one percent on the merchandise they sell. In other words, a single return would've not only eliminated profit made on the merchandise itself, but also eat into overall profit.

Asus A8N-E compatible RAM?

I have a personal preference of Crucial because there is no guess work involved. In all the time I've been buying Crucial memory (since the EDO days,) they just worked and worked and worked. That said, they do cost considerbly more...

Is the onboard RAID5 controller of the Asus AN8-SLI slower than a PCI RAID5 controller?

duh, what was I thinking. Missed the "DELUXE" part. (blush) That said, both the onboard SI implementation and HP implementation are software based (runs their RAID code off the host CPU.) If you want something better, you'll have to go with something like 3Ware or such with onboard CPU.

There is no RAID5 built into A8N. I am a bit weary of Highpoint products in general, and I certainly would not trust my data with their software RAID5 implementation.

Can I swap motherboards without reinstalling Windows?

You can use the "repair" option (the 2nd one, not the first!) from the Windows install CD. It in effect recopy some of the system files and overwrites some of the registry entries to default. That however also means that you have to reapply all the security patches...
