Suggestions for an HDTV

I give a very enthusiastic thumbs up for the Toshiba TheaterWide 52HM84. This TV is gorgeous. Runs $2400 though.

Getting wisdom teeth pulled out on Thursday

Oh, and how's this for dumb luck. In high school, a friend had a bad reaction to the anesthetic and was passed out for 4 days after having all 4 teeth out at once. By the time he woke up, all the pain was gone, swelling gone and bleeding stopped. He just had a long nap.

Is it worth it? I've yet to see a good AGP vs. PCIe video comparison, but then again I haven't looked a whole lot. :) Most benchmarks I've seen have simply been PCIe to PCIe comparisons.

I've done that ddogg. The computer will see the card if I remove it and put it back in, like finding new hardware. But then the desktop will crash and it doesn't see it again.

The damn thing is pissing me off. It works and then it doesn't. Once in a blue moon it will boot and see the card, and I actually had it running. Then the system crashed due to a driver error and when it restarted, no dual monitor support. This is driving me nuts.

Some years ago, I saw a utility that would alert you when sites of your choosing were updated. I guess what it did was check in the background to see if the page had changed since you last visited. Does such a utility still exist? Any tips are appreciated.

Klipsch speakers blowing fuses

Well that appears to have been it, but again, it was a careful process. I couldn't just put in a slow blow fuse and turn it on, that blew the fuse as well. So I disconnected everything and put in a new fuse, then connected the speakers, then plugged it into the computer, and it appears to be...

Slow blow fuses? Is that what they are called? I just got a bunch from Radio Shack. It had been working find for the last 3 days, so the sudden poof is weird because nothing changed since they were installed.

Orb drive locks up system

This is on a separate IDE connector. IDE0 has the hard drive and CDROM. It's a backup system so performance isn't an issue here. The Orb is on IDE1, all by itself. BIOS sees it fine.

Orb drive locks up system

I seem to have a little problem... When I added an internal Orb drive, the computer wouldn't boot. I had a dual boot system, XP and Win2k, and as soon as I hit the OS I wanted to boot, it froze. Drive light was on but I heard no I/O. Shut down, disconnect the Orb drive, boots fine. Ideas?

Whew, the 3.0Ghz runs hot

My 3.0GHz is hitting 75c on a full load, and the stock fan that came with it is pathetic, only doing around 1600 RPM. Any ideas on a good fan for the 3.0Ghz chip?

Replacing a DLL on Windows 2000

I've got a wee bit of a problem. Windows 2000 has an old version of ATL.DLL and some apps want to update it, like NAV2003. But it won't let me. How do I change this DLL so it's not protected, and can be updated? Or at least update it myself. Thanks for your help.

I was recently told that the cheaper, white, toothpaste-like thermal grease should be avoided and you should always use silver-based grease, with Arctic Silver being the best. Is this the case, and if so, why?
