Right I can either choose to use Allow From and specify the ip address, OR, if the server is part of the same domain, simply enable integrated windows auth? If they are not on the specified ip, or if their domain credentials do not match, they should just be prompted for the username and...

Alright and now just to sum everything up... If the lan and server are on the same domain, then enabling integrated windows authentication should let the server automatically authenticate the user if they use IE. If the server is not a part of the network, then we should be able to setup...

well the server is DMZ'd off. It has a 192.168.x.x address. The lan clients have a 10.x.10.x. There's not way to connect locally to the server over the lan. I'm not familiar with IIS authentication techniques. It looks like an htaccess login prompt. Basically it's not a login field on the web...

I have inet_interfaces = localhost in my main.cf file. When I run netstat and grep 21 and 110 I don't get any listen results. It's not that the server has running services listening on those ports, it's that the firewall doesn't have those ports closed by default. Even though in the CentOS...

Linux Server Outside of Firewall

I've always kept my servers behind my lan's firewall and just enabled port forwarding for whatever services I wanted to make public (ie: 80, 443, 25, 110, etc). My new employer keeps all of their servers outside of the firewall, which makes me a little nervous but maybe I'm just being too...

Spamassassin bayes count?

when you run sa-learn it outputs the number of messages it's learned from. sa-learn --mbox --spam /var/spool/mail/some-mailbox-with-spam output would say something like: Learned from 0 message(s) (1070 message(s) examined). EDIT: you can also take a look at my local.cf file here...

How can I limit bandwidth on my family's computer?

You could find out what port your games use and setup QoS in your router to give priority to traffic running on those ports. Then you could also set HTTP priority to Low. That may help, I've never really played around with the QoS settings in my Linksys but that's what they're there for.

Anyone know a Linux Distro that will work out the box with a Linksys WPC11 Ver 4 Wifi laptop card?

Have had really good luck with SimplyMepis. It detected my laptop's built in wireless when Ubuntu didn't. But then again I haven't tried Ubuntu 6.06. Just download a few live cd's and install the one that works the best.

as long as your behind a basic router/firewall enabling file and printer sharing is not going to be a security risk. if your pc had a direct connection to a dsl or cable modem that could be an issue, but your router should keep your network private.

What's a more Marketable Skill: Linux or BSD?

if by marketable you mean in terms of a career path, just do a few job searches on monster.com for job openings in your area. if there seem to be more employers looking for linux, then i guess know linux would make you more "marketable".

What's your favorite flavor?

I run Ubuntu on my main rig, but I just installed SimplyMepis on my laptop and I love it! It detected everything perfectly and I have a new found respect for KDE. I still prefer a RHEL clone for my servers though.

vpn/domain issues with windows 2003

for our local "lan" clients, the domain controller is the primary dns server. we have a linux firewall that acts as the default gateway. or were you inquiring about the settings for the vpn clients?
