Judging by the replies here and here, it sounds like this connection is unnecessary in many cases. I'm just going to get an i5-9400F, so I think it should be fine.

I have an existing Seasonic M12II EVO (520W) PSU and I'm considering purchasing a GIGA-BYTE Z390 UD m/board – will it work? How do I connect the 4-pin ATX 12V power connector? Is the PSU missing that?

BOOT_DEVICE_LED on Asus Z97-A staying on what does it mean?

I think at the time I was just in the BIOS, wondering what was going on. I think it went off before I started the Win 7 installation, but I'm not sure. Anyway, all is good for now. Thanks. =)

I just built a new system, and I can access the BIOS without issues (although at one point it froze for some reason), but the BOOT_DEVICE_LED is staying on all the time what does this mean? I had 4 devices connected at first: SSD#1 - new/unformatted SSD#2 - win 7 + another partition...

CPU - It feels a bit weird getting a server CPU for a desktop, plus the extra expense, so I think I might just stick with the i5-4690. M/board - I'm not a huge fan of ASRock (probably for no good reason though), are there are any (full ATX) Asus or Gigabyte options? RAM - I have 4GBs now...

And an HD6850? I think the Asus requires 2x6pin connectors, and my PSU only has one, but I think it comes with a 2xmolex to 6pin cable, would that work?

PC making a clicking noise followed by a shutdown/restart noise

I set the "Turn off HDD after X minutes of inactivity" option to 0 minutes, and I haven't heard the sounds since. I was initially confused as to why this setting would take effect while I was working on my computer, but I've recently realised that it was probably my other HDD that was spinning...

It's not a constant clicking sound, it only happens once in a while, and it's a single click (maybe a PC speaker noise), followed by what might well be a HDD spin down.

Ya, it makes the powering down sound. Asus P5Q + Intel E8500. I didn't see many relevant options in the BIOS. I've set the HDD to never turn off after inactivity (in Windows). I'm going to monitor it now and see if it happens again.

Nah, it tends to happen immediately, no time for the screen saver to start. Like I said "I didn't have any problems with the monitor before the upgrade." + "I just tried moving the cable around a bit and nothing happens.". Possible, but I'm not convinced. I actually still have my old card...

Unfortunately I live in South Africa, so I don't have access to such prices ... the Antec Earthwatts 380W is about R820 / $90 here. D.

Right, but I'm not sure I trust it. I tried, but couldn't find one to borrow. I've gone with a 460W, mostly because there is only a small price difference between the 390 and the 460. Thanks for your help.

You're sure that's enough? An Antec 380W Earthwatts is more than double the price of a 390W Cooler Master -- I'm not sure I can justify paying that, especially since the problem might not be the PSU. Thanks, D.

Keyboard is randomly inserting 2, 4, 6, and 8 when using the arrow keys!

I don't have a USB keyboard to test with, but I have tried two other keyboards and neither of them exhibit the same problem, while the problem keyboard works fine on two other systems. I tried using a generic Microsoft driver and the problem still occurred -- which means the only other thing...
