Laptop recommendation for college student?

Hi. I was just wondering if anyone could suggest a good laptop for my sister who is heading off to college in August. i was looking at the dell inspiron 15 and studio 15. She will just need it for internet and word processing. would like it to be as light as possible - but not to sure...

Need Help - trying to reformat XP

I have a red drivers cd and a blue operating systems cd. the red one says to put in first when reformatting, and you will be prompted for the blue disc...finally got it to boot from the disc, and it seemed to be working...and asked for the blue disk, but won't recognize it. i am pretty sure...

it has been reformated with these discs before..it says operating system on the disc.....it's not the operating system? i'm putting in the disc it is asking for...

Winzip Repair Tool - Free?

well maybe i spoke a little to soon...it let me extract the file which it wasn't doing before...but still got some kind of error, and it didn't finish extracting...

Strong signal on laptop, but can't access internet

what do you mean about the ip address - the one on the laptop is set to obtain one automatically. how do i make sure i am connected to the router? the network setup stuff on vista confuses me - it looks different and i'm new at this stuff....

Linksys adapter not working on my Gateway XP media center...

ok, i went and bought a new adapter. it wouldn't work either, just said unknown device in the USB portion of the device manager, didn't have a ?..just said unknown device. i installed the drivers from the cd - then plugged it in. didnt' work. so i turned off the linksys monitor and turned...

even if the usb works for other things, like a jump drive?...should i maybe take the linksys adapter back, and get the linksys pci card? i have seen other people with problems with the adapter and media center edition. i'm surprised windows or linksys hasn't released drivers to fix...

it has to be the drivers...they just aren't working on this XP Media Center Edition machine...anyone ever heard of this problem? i spent an hour talking to the linksys people only for them to come to the conclusion that its a computer problem. can anyone point me in the right direction...

well i installed first because that is what it said to do on the cd.....then i plugged in the adapter if i install the software that came with the adapter should the Windows Zero Configuration be disabled? could the fact that it a media center edition be causing the problem...

Connected to Network but can't get on internet ???

This seems to be my situation, but i don't understand what that bold part means.... if i have another wireless laptop that is working fine, then it's not my router is it? what does it mean by wireless client computer?

I have had everything working fine with my wireless network. We have three pcs, and three laptops all have been able to get to the network and on the internet. Yesterday my newest laptop (with vista), was connected to the network but would not get on the internet. it had an X in the network...

F10 not loading Recovery....

I have a HP Pavilion7915 that has the recovery on a different partition...I am supposed to be able to hit F10 when the blue screen is up on startup - and it is suppose to go to the recovery screen. But it's not working!! i've tried and tried, even tried F11, and pretty much everything else...

if the ethernet card and everything has no ? in the device manager...i have it plugged up...should there be an icon that says Local Area Connection?

i think there was a question mark by the ethernet controller? or something like that, i put in the driver disc my computer came with and installed everything.... the network card doesn't have a ? ..it looks like it is installed...... should i leave the router disconnected till i know that...

HI, i reformatted my computer last night and now i can't get the internet to work. I had a router all setup and working previously. But since it wasn't working, i unplugged it, and now just have the dsl modem plugged into my computer (ethernet), the wall, and phone jack. i checked my network...

update - i installed a fresh install of joomla in another folder on the domain - and she could see it - i put the same template on it and all - so it must be some module/mambot that's on the site?

you are probably right, she is probably tired of dealing with it - but she does REALLY want to be able to see the site.... if it works if i switch hosts, that wouldn't prove it was the host that was the problem?

i have someone on another board offering to host my site (they have a reseller account) temporarily to make sure it is definitely not the hosting...any reason i shouldn't do this? i'm not quite sure how to do it with joomla...but maybe i could figure it out?
