Remember DLP?

Gotta say, I still love my Mitsubishi 60" 2009 DLP RPTV! The light bulb hours are over 3k now, so may have to replace it soon but it still looks bright and amazing! TBH, nothing beats the organic "movie screen" feeling of this TV .. I love it. Black levels are ok.. better than an LCD at least =)...

Installing WinXP on a disk where W7 created partitions?

naw, you can actuall boot winxp w/ NT6.0 MBR & partition boot sector just fine =) Upon installing XP, it will rewrite the MBR & partition boot sector back into NT5.0 & ntldr respectively.

This issue is killing me. svchost.exe is sucking up all my memory and I'm helpless

yeah combofix is straight forward nowadays. The thing ya gotta know how to take care is when the OS is damaged as a result of whatever combofix fixed / removed etc... I clean computers all day long of infections and combofix only really messes stuff up like 1% of the time.

standard OEM CD will work. You have 2 options after that, look for the preactivation kit posted online to legally preactivate the copy after install, like the factory does. Or, just type the CD key from the sticker into the activation screen.

yeah pretty much, using virtualbox as an example. When you install a guest OS , after the install you install "guest additions / extensions" that are drivers that allow the guest OS to gain more direct access to the hardware by allowing the extension drivers to make calls to the host OS on...

any tuneup type utility for windows is absolute garbage regardless of websites say. Dont use them .. PERIOD please follow the steps I outlined in my previous post.

You are wrong. At worst, it means reinstalling all my programs and setting up all my tweaked settings again. Ive had the same OS install for about 7-8 years now, running fast as a clean install. I dont want to go through having to set up the last 7 - 8 years worth of software again on a clean...

What I would do, is in ur services tab image you posted. Under each one of those service listed, select stop for applicable services. If all of them stop and RAM usage is not affected. Then its most likely the windows foundation driver service .. meaning you for sure have a user mode driver...

Just because the avast executive is using a tiny portion of RAM, doesnt mean its driver isnt malfunctioning and causing a huge use of RAM. Also every AV's product of on access scanning is different, some are betters other are worse...this determines a AV's IO overhead.

Like I stated my install of windows is an upgrade from XP -> Vista ... there is no upgrade option to 64bit. So, I wanted to breathe life into 32bit for as long as possible. And it has only worked wonders =)

yeah, if you simply boot up your XP CD install disk. It will show you the 2 partitions currently on the drive. Select the OS partition, select option to format it then off ya go =) It wont touch the data on the 2nd partition and it will still be usable.

naw, no real benefits... although, since u are using 2 disks as backup , if they both have the same backup data, you could use windows RAID 1 capabilities to kinda do this transparently =)

How to retain hibernation data even after system resume?(Windows 7 ultimate)

Just so you are aware... S4 power state(aka hibernation) the PC technically is OFF. Im curious , if all u do is turn ur pc 'off' which I assume you mean S5 power state(completely off, cept 5vsb of course), why are you asking about sleep states? Im confused...lol

Just a heads up if windows driver foundation is the offending hosted service... you most likely have a driver installed,probably a software driver if I had to guess, thats causing the issue. In this case it can be anything from backup software to antivirus to viruses...causing it.

use the process explorer program previously linked in this thread. It shows you what services are running within each instance of svchost.exe Using the threads tab on the given service eating up all the RAM, you might be able to figure out a bit more info after finding the thread representing...

Windows 8 won't boot off a windows 7 DVD? What the hell?

Its hilarious to me seeing people whine about how passwords & security are too tight when they are trying to do stuff to their system and they blame MS for implementing such "ridiculous" mechanisms. But, as soon as their system becomes infested w/ viruses and their information stolen they whine...

is my OEM Windows 7 product key 32 & 64 bit?

you could always SLIC patch windows and it will preactivate legally the same way vendors do it. WARNING: there are a lot of illegal patchers that use this method as well...dont use those. Since your OEM BIOS already has the proper SLIC strings in it, you just need the proper certificate files...

Is it possible to do a full transfer of xp to win 7?

If you have enough HDD space... you can do a HDD -> VHD ... then save that VHD elsewhere temporarily. Then wipe your target PC HDD and do the clean install of 7 on it. Then load up virtualbox and create a new VM and attach the VHD to it, boot it up and you can mess around w/ ur old PC in a VM to...
