Asus a8n-e..

I have the 8800 GTX. Great card, but it gets totasty (warm). Internal monitors put it up around 84c somedays. No problems though. I've had it churning through Total War Med'evil II with massive armies at full graphics and it's breezed. 2MB of RAM helps. Need at least 500W of power too.

ASUS A8N-E Build question

I got an A8N-E today and it has the new northbridge fan. You can tell if it's the new one by it's orientation. Hold the board square, and it's diamond shaped. Apparently it's quieter and better. I've got a Zalman NB47 heatsink ready to replace it should it be as crappy as the old ones or fail.

Great summary. Good food for thought. Thanks! I was recently told that I was better off going with ASUS if I wasn't going to overclock. My existing mobo is an ASUS, and it's been totally stable. Maybe I should stick to what I know?

Thanks. I'm kind of swinging away from MSI and towards the VNF4 Ultra as I'm seeing a lot of bitching and complaining about the MSI Neo4-F... although, I am seeing as many people say they've had a dream run with it. I guess my next question is, if I go with the VNF4 Ultra, should I get it...

Looks like VNF4 Ultra may be the way to go, although, what's with this passive cooling on the nVidia chip. Isn't that a bit dodgy? Can I swap it out for active? Any fan recommendations should I go that route?

OK, I'll read up a bit more on the Ultra. It may be that it does give me a bit more future-proofing. I guess I should have a look around at other Ultra boards too... or is the VNF4 Ultra really the best value in terms of price/functionality/stability?
