  1. Holy crap i didn't know kitchen faucets were so expensive

http://www.deltafaucet.com/smarttechnology/learnmore/touch2o-technology.html Put this in our recent kitchen remodel. Worth every penny.
  2. Does anyone buy medium grade gasoline?

    My 300C uses midgrade.
  3. Buying OEM CPUs...

The problem is, frankly, that OEM chips are often more expensive than retail ones. Usually the really cheap OEM chips people find are grey market chips that were either pulled from systems, or were not meant for the US market. In either case, you run into warranty issues. For the pittance...
  4. Five Guys rated #1 Fast Food Burger

It may have been said already, but there's at least one at Greektown casino.
  5. it's the law: cheerleading is NOT a sport

I always look at a sport as something where the two competitors/teams directly affect one another's "score". So basketball is a sport, for example, because there's defense involved, and the offense has to score in spite of the efforts of the other team. I think of things like cheerleading...
  6. How to overclock this system?

There are settings for RAM too, generally speaking.
  7. Intel Extreme Q9100 ES???

ES chips can be hit or miss. They are often pre-production samples that may not have all the bug fixes or refinements you'll find in production chips. So there's always a risk of some flaky behavior. On the bright side, having an unlocked chip is pretty fun. Just enjoy it!
  8. How to overclock this system?

Just do a Google search for Athlon X2 overclocking guide. There's tons of them out there, those chips were fun to OC! This one is decent enough to get you started: http://www.overclock.net/overclock.php?file=articles/overclocking-guide.htm
  9. Intel C-State Tech

Up to you. Leaving it on will throttle the chip down when not at load, and will save a bit of heat/power. Yes. However, it can occasionally cause problems when you're planning to OC. I personally prefer to shut off throttling when I'm overcocking, but it's not a absolute rule. Play...
  10. Core i7: Temp Diff under load?

I'd remove the heat sink, clean all your TIM off, and start fresh. The only thing under your control that would cause this would be a poor application of TIM - either not enough, or too much. So just to be safe, if you're worried about it, do it again. I am skeptical that mounting direction...
  11. intel CPU warranty

Most of the time OEM CPUs do have a warranty, but they are provided through the reseller or systems integrator. It's true though that you can't RMA an OEM chip through Intel/AMD - generally speaking. I've seen them still work with customers in a bind, but most of the time you have to deal with...
  12. intel CPU warranty

You can usually get around the original owner thing. As long as you have some sort of receipt to show when you purchased it. I can think of a handful of reasons why they have this policy in place though. As for the cooler - yea, they want it back, but they don't always enforce it.
  13. Intel OC Worksheet

Tada, XLS version uploaded and linked above. In that version, there is a clock speed column that auto calculates, in lieu of the trial line. Enjoy :)
  14. Intel OC Worksheet

Yea great idea, I will post that up tomorrow. I'll put up a standard XLS file, that should help! As such, I'll tweak it a bit and add a field to calculate and display core speed, etc.
  15. Intel OC Worksheet

I put together a little tracking worksheet for when you're overclocking a new chip. Print it off, and you can keep track of what settings you're trying, so you don't duplicate efforts. I know after tweaking for a few hours, I tend to get things a bit confused in my head ;) I am pretty sure...
  16. Pre-tested CPUs - "Good" overclock for i7 930

@Adamk47 - My only concern with linx is that it appears to drive temps up far more than anything else does... way more than what people will ever see when actually using the chip, and I don't want that temp reading in screen shots to freak people out who don't know any better. @Markfw900 -...
  17. Pre-tested CPUs - "Good" overclock for i7 930

Due to popular request, I'm doing a very small pilot with pre-testing some CPUs. The basic methodology is to set the vcore/VTT to 1.3 as a reasonably conservative setting. The normal things like C1E, Powerstep, etc are shut off, but otherwise things are left stock. I gradually boost base...
  18. Pretested CPUs - A Stroll Down Memory Lane

This thread has made me consider this again. I may have a way to make this work now... hmm...
  19. Pretested CPUs - A Stroll Down Memory Lane

haha yea I mean in a generic sense, if you want a faster chip you can buy the faster models :) That part makes sense. So long as you had a constructive, profitable outlet for the "bad" chips the system would work better. It's still a cut-throat business, but that would definitely help...
  20. Pretested CPUs - A Stroll Down Memory Lane

There's a handful of reasons why a business like that is bound to fail, sadly. So I buy a lot of 10 chips, and spend a few hours testing them all. The few gems I find that are monster overclockers will get a premium, yes. What about the average chips? Will I be able to sell them for any...
  21. CPU speciality store

ewww don't shop with *them* ;)
  22. why is a decent MMO impossible to find?

Yep, don't see it happening. I played EQ quite a bit, and yes, there was a certain thrill and excitement about the bigger risk of death. Made you be more careful, and you had to play your class better. My wife and I play EQ2 now, which is far, far more forgiving. And honestly, it's a lot...
  23. Hearts of Iron 3

The Hearts of Iron games are fantastic.... after a few patches. Paradox games tend to be extremely buggy on first release, but they are also one of the best in the business for updates and post-release support. By patch 1.3 or so, the games are great.
  24. Seriously Heroes is like the worst show ever

I find your lack of faith disturbing...
  25. Heat Pumps = scam?

Sheesh... way to be all technical. What are you, a mod in the Highly Technical forum or something?? ... Oh, wait... :D Yea okay you got me there! Back on topic, however, Kalrith's post reminded me of something. One very nice benefit of the heat pumps is that you typically keep the...
  26. Heat Pumps = scam?

Well, CPUs *do* heat up by electrical resistance... :P But ssshhh... don't tell people that I'm selling them processors I previously used to heat my living room ;)
  27. Heat Pumps = scam?

I live in SE Michigan, and we get both hot summer days and cold winter days. We had a ground source heat pump installed about 2 years ago now, and I'm VERY glad we did. Yes, when the temp drops down to a certain point, it's tough for the geo system to keep up, so it will turn on the backup...
  28. Cyclist killed while holding the headrest of a car

Heh, you should come visit Detroit, then see if you still stand behind that ;)
  29. Intel G2 available but is NewEgg gouging?

They tend to do that on low supply / high demand parts. I have them in stock now, much less. They are low supply parts to be sure, but no reason to pay *that* much.
  30. Intel X25-M (1st gen) 80GB SSD $230 at a couple places now!

Not MSRP. 1,000 min QTY prices to purchase direct from Intel ;)
  31. Fun EQ2

Server: Najena Character: Icade Race: Iksar Class: Defiler Level: 73 Guild: Phoenix Order Fun game, wife plays too.
  32. "The Cost Conundrum" - great article about the rise of healthcare costs

I agree that it's not so simple. I don't think for profit can work when the people receiving the service aren't the ones directly paying for it. I'd be willing to bet most of the people who get unneccesary procedures/tests are insured - they aren't going to risk racking up a huge bill for...
  33. Hunting down a D0

We don't take all the D0's out of the supply. We are just typically one of - if not the first - company to get new revisions. Once they come out, it's all we stock, since that's what you guys want, and you're our core market. Nobody comes to us to buy "old" hardware ;) 99.99% of customers...
  34. Hunting down a D0

There is no such thing as MSRP on these chips, actually. The price you are likely thinking of, that everyone thinks is MSRP, is actually the quoted cost for tray processors (not retail boxed) when purchased in minimum quantities of 1,000, directly from Intel. Yes, often times prices settle to...
  35. Hunting down a D0

You are absolutely correct. There are some things that also factor in, but in a nutshell, that's right. The reason you see such disparity between places is that not only go some stores get lower wholesale costs on certain items (due to volume and/or kickbacks from the manufacturer). You...
  36. Hunting down a D0

Non-reputable? Where on earth do you even come up with this? And you base this statement on the fact that you have a comprehensive knowledge of the wholesale costs, CC processing fees, shipping, labor, insurance, market competition, etc - so you know what the "correct" price...
  37. If GM and Chrysler go out of business....

Since there's existing production infrastructure and trained labor already in the US, I'd say that at least in the short term, it would be more economical to resume production at existing facilities than to open up whole new plants over seas.
  38. i7 920 D0

    LOL. Nice :D
  39. i7 920 D0

ETA right now is 4/1. It's been pushed back a bit... getting this in isn't quite so easy as running down to the corner store and picking them up ;)
  40. New Core i7 Stepping "D0" set to launch?

ETA is mid/late March. It's not a major update, ala the G0 Q6600s, but not a whole lot else is known for sure, since there aren't many out in the wild to test.
