I would go with 4870 or anything AMD within that price point. 5770 kinda disappoints me thinking that it was going to be significant enough not to buy 5850 (my target). I was going to buy the 48xx series but then I buy major video cards every two years so why I would buy something cheaper only...

Q9550 a worthy upgrade over Q6600?

Oops, let me edit that statement: ewiz sells an OEM and Retail box of the 9550 for less than what others sells. You might want to reconsider your options :) I was thinking about it (swapping my e8400) but I think I'm ready for the Core i5s.

Why doesn't ATI have the best low profile gpu?

+1 I've been user of both. Right now on Nvidia but waiting to get some AMD (4850 came out unannounced two weeks after I bought my 9600GT for my own b'day present!) when P55 comes along. I think TS needs to ask that in AMD forum instead because I would like to know that answer as well...

PowerPC G4 857Mhz on my Powerbook G4 Titanium I also have a Willamette sock 478 at my friend's house somewhere and a P4 2.2Ghz Northwood that my family use from time to time.

Best Cpu for the Money *POLL*

for me, $60 e2140 from microcenter is the best bang for the buck. Second best would be my e4500 combo from Fry's which equate to 85 for CPU only. Oh n btw, both CPU are retail boxes :D

Considering building a new PC?

Dunno... I was going to recommend MSI P35 Neo2-FR just because it comes with ICH9R and supports RAID 5 standard. Not that you could not do that with WinXP Pro at software level...however the thought of that you can on hardware level at 100AR makes it a good buy.

Retro Overclock: 3800X2 on A8NSLI-SE

Your friend should be able to hit 240FSB easy without raising any Vcore. I did it on mine just fine. I hit BSODs at 250FSB with any kind of Vcore increase...maybe it's just my board but I'm satisfied with 240FSB

I'm getting MSI Neo-F from ClubIT for under 90 bucks. I like the fact that it comes with ICH9R instead of the regular ICH9 on the other boards. My other choice would be XFX 680i LT SLI from TigerDirect for under 100. Although it would be nice to run SLI, I like P35 chipset because it is less...

Help me pick a motherboard for these parts please!

If you are looking for a motherboard with 2 IDE ports, look no further than the 650i SLI. The 650i SLI is slightly above your price range. You should seriously consider XFX Nvidia 680i LT SLI for $99 @ TigerDirect. I hope that helps.

It's not your RAM that is screwing you. I am just telling that for what you were trying to accomplish, you just cannot have fast timing and high overclock. One or either has to give. You don't have to look far for what I am talking about. Just look at Anandtech motherboard reviews...

Loosen your timing buddy. Looks like this is the limit of your chip. You have to remember that not all overclock are the same so unfortunately this is as far as the memory can go at that timing.

One HD = Bottleneck?

Whoa... RAID is not always expensive and is not always makes your data vulnerable. I think he was referring to RAID 0...which is technically isn't RAID because you basically splitting your data into two hard drives or more in even numbers. RAID 0 creates redundancy (320GBx2=640GB unformatted)...

Nationwide. Dunno about retail. Fry's might have price cuts if s939 had not already been discontinued but their combo prices are cheap to begin with. Other than that, stick to online prices.

Warm. SVC.com had it for 20 bucks w/o rebates last year. I bought one. It was okay. +12v was barely above the 5% rating of ATX 2.0. At least it has 20+4 main ATX power connector for the newer motherboards.
