Thanks! I don't do a lot of gaming but I also want to run games a year from now at a reasonable quality. Maybe I should just get the 9600GT and think about upgrading a year from now. Off to research the 9600GT v the 8800GTS...

Hmmm so would it be worth while to hold off another 3-6 months and get a 8800GTX (or whatever is a reasonably priced high end card), then upgrade everything but the video card next year? I think I will wait to see how Supreme Commander runs. Recommended system is 3.0 GHz and a 256MB video...

I use it for gaming, some video encoding/decoding, Photoshop, movies, web surfing, office stuff. Expectations? I WANT A FASTER SYSTEM! :) I don't expect to have an amazing system that can run the latest game at the highest settings, but I feel like mine is starting to get a little sluggish...

Yeah, I changed the Linux HD to boot first and my system hangs. If I change it back to the XP drive booting first it boots fine.

Should I change my case fan to low?

I currently have my case fan set to high and my cpu stays around 35c. I would like to turn the fan down to low but if it will affect the cpu performance or life I can deal with the extra noise. What do you guys think?

Athlon XP 3000+ or 64 3000+

I'm looking to build a budget system for around $500 w/o monitor. Would I see a noticible difference between the XP 3000 and the 64 3000? I don't want to overclock. I will be using it mainly for photo editing and some gaming but I don't need great frame rates.
